Well I am still transitioning, but I will still put in my 2 cents. I have a years worth of natural hair 5-6 inches and I wear it flatiorned 80% of the time. I wash and flatiorn every 2 weeks. At around 400F. I also blowdry before hand on high heat with the comb attachment. My flatiorn is a Herstyler Classic... it is the bomb! lol There is something about it that gets my hair relaxer straight and keeps it until wash day, and I workout 3x per week (I dont sweat in my head though).

It depends on my mood and what I'm doing. I usually wear my hair curly. If I have stuff going on I'll flat iron every 2 weeks. I can't do it a week apart. I tried that once (just had to have the fresh press look) and it was no bueno for my hair. I think me head is so used to moisture and being cleaned daily(from cowashing every morning) that after about a week it starts itching and I wash and do my best not to straighten for another weeks.

So short version: there has to be at least 2 weeks apart. And I try to have a month of curly/recovery.

Ohh and I have the Chi w/o the temp control

@ chrismiss.. ur hair is so pretty in ur siggy.. i flatironed last week on 370 and my hair wasnt really straight..especially in the roots.. I just purchased an FHI platform..Im gonna get the herstyler if the FHI doesnt get the job done @ 400

I usually flat iron about once a month on 400F.. less in the summertime.. unless I can find something that will help me not look like a puff ball

I get mine blowdried and pressed about 2 times per year. I get mine pressed with a hot comb in a oven. Therefore, I don't know the temperature.

That is not because I am afraid of damage. I am tenderheaded and don't like to get it done. It takes a long time, too.

I just got a Herstyler today! (it was my pick me up) but it is AMAZING! Idk how I haven't heard more about it prior to today! I love that thing!

Twice a year at the most. I haven't even flat-ironed my hair this year. When I do iron it, i set the temperature to 360F. That's about all the heat I need.

I'm transitioning but I wash every 1-2 weeks but only flat iron every two months. I airdry in braids and flat iron on 395 (which is the highest my iron goes) with two passes.

Flat iron 4-6 times a year. When my hair was shorter, I would keep it straight for a week before washing again. Now that its longer, I can put it back some sort of way the 2nd week, so will keep it for two weeks. When I work out I sweat really hard but mositly in the middle and back of my head but the front will usually stay fairly straight.

Flat iron temp around 425 to 450, one pass using comb chase method.

Naturals who press;

  • How often do you wash?
If this is w/r/t to pressing, I'm not sure how to answer. Otherwise, on the regular, I wash my hair twice a week. After wearing my hair pressed, I'm usually bored of the straight look by the end of one week so I will usually wash then. I think a week is the longest I've worn pressed hair. I am not fond of styling my hair day-in, day out...and straightened hair doesn't hold braids or twists well so after styling it daily for a week, I get tired of it and bored of how it looks.

  • How often do you flatiron or press ur hair?
I don't have a schedule. I just do it when I feel like it. Last time I flatironed my hair was April 2009. Before that, end of 2006. Before that end of 2004.

  • And at what temperature?
I usually do it at 230 degrees Celsius (446 degrees Fahrenheit).

When I straighten it's via blowdry and flat iron and my stylist does it. I still suck at it and look like a chia pet by the end of it. He uses a preset CHI so whatever temperature that is (370 I think), that's what is used. I will be getting mine straightened twice a month.

I typically only straighten my hair when I take out my braids. That's about 3-5x a year. When I wear my hair out of braids for extended periods of time (that hasn't happened in a long time) I typically straighten every 1.5-2.5 weeks. I think the hottest I use was 220. I blowdry with a comb attachment beforehand, so that's really the highest heat setting I need.

I wash and blow dry every 2 weeks and have my stylist flat iron it. I'm not sure what temp my stylist uses but lately he's been saying I'm doing a good job blow drying so he doesn't have to work a lot to get my hair completely straight.
