Did you already have an idea of what your texture was gonna be, or was it different than what you had anticipated, once you cut all the processed ends off? I am almost 3 month post and I think I have an idea but I want a little more info. Did you think you had a hair twin but after you cut the ends off you were wrong?

I transitioned for 10 long months. During that transition, I wore buns, and my new growth appeared wavy, like it had some cute curl definition. I was a taken aback when I BC'd, and those waves disappeared. Don't worry, they came back eventually, I just had to learn how to work with my natural texture. So to answer your question, my texture was a tad different, but I learned to work with it. Now, I love it!

Similar response and experience!!

I transitioned for 19 months and trimmed the ends every two months until the SC (small chop). I think around 7-8 months I had a pretty good idea of what my hair texture would be (corkscrew 4a) and I was right, after I trimmed all of the relaxed ends. I began by wearing roller rod sets, then ponytails and finally twists. Also I didn't experience any scab hair but if you do, it may appear different than your true texture.

i transitioned for about 9 months almost 10 i gradually cut and got braids that eventually led to the big chop..yay!! as of today im 6months natural and sum change..half a year!! ill be updating soon..

Did you have an idea what your texture was before you cut the ends off?

I transitioned for 14 months. For the first several months I thought I knew how my natural hair would look, but closer to the big chop, it appeared things were turning out differently. When I cut of the relaxed ends, I was pretty surprised by what I saw. Looking back, though, I really shouldn't have been.

I kind of had an idea because I had been stretching my relaxers for years (3-4 months) bc I was a broke college student and couldn't afford to get to the salon on time. But my hair looks different now from my 2nd 6 month stretch (which led to a BC on a whim) vs. my first 6 month stretch. It's like a totally different head of hair. I think the first go round it was scab hair. I've heard other naturals say they had to cut their natural hair again after BCing bc it was dry and sparse. The only difference I noticed before I bced was that it curls up more without the relaxed ends holding on. It's still thin like it was with the relaxer.

I had a 12 month transition, and I could see my hair texture at six months. I couldn't tell how curly the ends would be until I did the BC. The biggest surprise was that my hair would grow out so much. I think a part of me thought it would grow more down than out, but nope--it's a true afro shape. I learned to love afros quick and in a hurry. ;)

I cant wait!! But I have to transition at least another 3,4 months. I cut my sideburns like one of the other transitioners lol....

My kitchen was always tightly coiled. I really didn't imagine how my natural hair would turn. I am glad I continued with the transition. I love my natural hair.

I had an idea but I was wrong. Kinda. I thought my hai rwould be coilier and softer, but my hair was really coarse feeling w/ no curl pattern.

I have scab hair, which I believe is real b/c it's on my head, so the hair that is starting to grow now is more of the texture I thought I would have. It's much softer and coil-ier. Not everyone believes in scab hair...sooo you're going to have to see for yourself.

BTW: I transitioned for exactly 6 months.

6.5 months before the BC..

I had a good idea of my naps texture before then--but seeing myself with a head full of nappy roots was still an adjustment for me*

I didn't have a hair twin then and now I'm glad I don't have one...makes me feel unique!

I transitioned for exactly 11 mos. and 3 days. I did not really know how my hair would be when I cut off the relaxed ends, but I had a pretty good idea as it grew out more. Still, I was a little surprised at my texture - pleasantly though :yep: I have been completely natural over a year now, and my hair is still surprising me. While it was shorter, it seemed one way, but as it gets longer and gets more weight to it, it changes a little. I like my hair though. I guess I am a 4a (with some 3c?) - I guess :look: I am not good at hairtyping, and I really don't know what my hair is, but that is what I would choose out of the options. Though no two peoples' hair can ever really be EXACTLY alike, I do believe that there are some heads that are extremely close. So, I do have a hair twin on this board. It is the same person I thought it would be when I was transitioning ;)

I transitioned for 16 months cutting off the relaxed ends along the way. I used braids to transition. I knew I was about a 4a from what I remember (12 yrs natural as a kid then relaxed for 12 yrs) but I thought I had more defined curls at least that's what I gathered from my new growth as my braids grew out. My hair still clumps into curls better at the roots than at the ends. Maybe it's a moisture thing this is all still very new. I didn't know that my hair could shrink down to TWA to then go to a huge blow out fro . I need to start taking advantage of that. One of these days I will DL my pics out of my digi cam and put them in an album. Happy transitioning!

I transitioned for a year and cut the last strands of relaxed hair a couple of week ago. I sort of had an idea of what my natural hair would look like, but I didn't know it was gonna be this easy to manage it, I'm so glad I found LHCF.

I transition for almost 6 months (4 days short). I just did the BC two days ago. And I am a little surprised by what I see. I think I still have quite a few relaxed strands in there. But, I expected my hair to be softer, because my new growth was really soft. I am sporting a twistout TWA right now, and it feels kind of hard. I also did think that my hair would be this dry looking. Most of my new growth had very good sheen.

Congrats Twana!! last I heard you were just chopping here and there. Soooo you went ahead and did the d@%$ thing. I got a bush w/str8 ends on my head, and I'm tempted everyday.I checked out your album and I'm sure once you work with that texture your gonna have some beautiful hair on your hands.hhg;)

yes and no..i had been relaxing for what seemed like forever soo it was a surprise when my texture was shown..but no regrets my hair is healthy from root to tip now!!

I'm still transitioning and it's been 20 months. I'm trying to make it until 2 yrs. and I've been mini-chopping the whole way along.

I was pretty sure that my hair is mostly 3c with some 4a. My hair has a S curl pattern and is really soft. But after I washed and conditioned my hair today, I was surprised to see that the curls were a little bigger than drinking straws. So I'm confused now. Maybe it's because I've been transitioning so long that most of my hair is natural and the curls are starting to pop out. I don't think you'll really know until you chop. Good luck :)

Transitioned for a few years. My hair was not as course as I thought it would be. It wasn't until afterwards that I realized I may have a hair twin.
