When you wash your hair do the naps come back as soon as the water hit it? I was in the shower freaking out when I washed my hair today. It stayed straight for a minute then it started to curl back up. I was scared to death. :perplexed We're okay now though. :)

Wow! I'm too scared to put heat in my hair. I've heard horror stories of women who've pressed or flat-ironed their hair permanently straight (on accident of course) and had to have the sections of hair cut off since those pieces of hair were damaged. I would like to straighten just to see my actual length. Anyway, be careful, girl:perplexed

YES!! My hair takes some time before it curls back up. When my hair is striaght, I have a high tolerance for water based products which I think is one reason why my flat iron do's last so long.

yes, they return once I put water on my hair. some parts of my hair take longer to revert, (mostly the bottom half of my hair).

I got a little worried too one time before, I had gone to a stylist who got my hair bone straight, a week later I washed it and my hair barely curled up. thankfully, it was only temporary.:)

Whew! I feel better now. I also forgot that when I was relaxed it took a while for my hair to get fully wet. Once I got the conditioner on it, I was good. But it did take a few mins. It was still straight from last week. I only washed it bc I'm getting my hair done tomm.

My hair usually reverts back once I start shampooing. The left side of my head seems to have a looser curl pattern than the rest of my hair, but that side has always been the crazy side so as long as the pattern isn't too loose, then I'm okay. Everything else is just fine.

ETA: I'm transitioning

my hair stays straight for a split second after it gets wet. then the ends start to coil up a bit, and the rest of my hair POOFS. :look: so... yes it reverts back quickly... but i have to shampoo all the cone-filled heat-protectant anti-reversion products out and then deep condition and detangle to re-coax my hair's coils to clump again.

Same here it's normal IMHO!

I've been natural for almost three years and I usually straighten my hair about once every two months or so just to get a really good trim and so I can see the length. I've only had one bad expereice when I first did it, and the stylist used a pressing comb. I smelled something going on in the back:perplexed but I didn't say anything. My hair was extremely straight, but when I washed it there was one piece in the back that did not get curly anymore. By now it has grown so you can't really tell, and I only allow stylists to use a ceramic flat iron. It gets it just as straight without the damage.:D

I'm not natural yet, but I have almost 8 months of new growth. When I flat iron my NG straight I use a protein conditioner first. I see quicker reversion if I use protein before heat than if I just use a moisturizing conditioner. So far, no heat damage. Actually, the roots have usually reverted before I wash.

Aww that sucks :( Is there anyway to make it come back?

Yeah, it does suck cause my hair is all straight and limp in the bang area when the rest of my hair is coily.

I thought I was the only one with this problem! My nape and crown/sides curl back up but the very front of my hair curls into big 3bish spirals. :perplexed

Mine curls back in slow motion - when the water hits it, it's just wet but still straight. Then the roots puff a little, after I shampoo, it starts coiling. Once I comb the conditioner through, the curls are poppin'.
