I'm incorporating swimming in my exercise reggie and I'd like to know if there naturals her who swim and how you protect your from the water. TIA

When i last went swimming i put alot of conditioner in my hair and did two cornrows. I didn't bother with a hat as they never kept out water when i was younger.
Needless to say my hair looked bloody awful afterwards.....just all matted and unstyled. Luckily i had a beany hat in my bag.

I've taken advice from other forums and websites:

1. Put some conditioner in and not rinse out, or rinse lightly and seal with oil. I wash immediately afterwards. I found out that those shampoos made specifically for chlorine are usually too harsh, so a regular shampoo works fine. This is usually the only time I use shampoo, so I try to use a mild one, with no sulfates. I think Aubrey makes a swimmers shampoo, no sulfates.

2. I try to use a cap, but I don't have much success with them staying on!

3. I have had my hair out and with braids, for me cornrows are best; if I have braids, I put a stocking cap on to wash. I braid with a real hair/good quality synthetic blend (I thought I was buying 100% real hair, my braider told me other wise, go figure.). My hair is very soft, so this can last two weeks. Obviously, no braids is best, I only do this for vacations!

HTH, good luck. don't be discouraged, swimming for exercise is great.

I pull it in a bun and swim but I don't add product.

For those that use conditioner does it turn white in your hair. I don't think my family would let me put conditioner in my hair and then get in our pool.

I just started swimming about a month ago. I always wash and condition after I swim. I also wear a cap. So far so good I haven't seen any damage and I swim about 3-4 days per week. HTH!!

pretty simple. I swam very often this summer, being a camp counselor at summer camp.
I still only shampoo'ed/DC once a week. however, I cowashed very well every time I got out of the water and my hair was fine.
styling: you can slick back your hair and make a nice, professional-looking, sleek bun. easy peasy.

I swim several times per week. I oil rinse daily and pre-poo with oil and shampoo 1x weekly or as needed. Last year I used shealoe and it worked well for skin and hair.

Hey, you have a great routine, but I wanted to offer a suggestion if you wanted your swim cap to stay on. Try a lycra cap and then a silicone or rubber cap on top of it. I then top it off with a ear bandit (which is supposed to keep water out of the ears but also works great for helping to keep my cap on)

Whenever I swim my hair's in cornrows or otherwise braided and I clarify with ACV as a spray to get rid of the chlorine/sea water. Then I DC with a moisturizing conditioner with heat for at least 30 minutes and rinse. Before I get in the pool I wet my hair in the shower so it doesn't absorb as much chlorine. When I swam regularly I'd also wear both a nylon and silicon swim cap.
