I'm easy going.
COULD YOU PLEASE POST PICTURES OF YOUR ROLLERSETS....

ok i know there are probably threads about this already but i dont feel like looking for them.

i need help...im tired of my natural hair. Dont get me wrong,Ilove natural hair but im just bored of it. im bored of twistouts and buns. Lately i have been loving the rollerset look. i try to do rollersets but they never come out silky. they come out crunchy and the roots are so fricken nappy, yes i said nappy. (i love nappy hair, just not when im trying to do a rollerset) please give some advice.

please tell me how you get your hair so silky, smooth and flowy!!

please list techniques and products used. i desperately want my hair to be like this--->is this possible for me to achieve?

I dont want to ever use a flat iron again for as long asI live!

your advice is greatly appreciated:grouphug:

My hair does not do smooth & silky...nevertheless I LOVE rollersets & prefer them over the flat lifeless hair I get when my hair is flatiironed.

I get my rollersets nice and silky to the point where people think I relaxed my hair
I'm not sure if I have any rollersetting secrets, but this is what I do:

1. Deep condition for at least an hour
2. The rollerset itself doesn't have to be perfect, but the hair has to be 100% dry before taking out the magnetic rollers or otherwise your hair will frizz.
3. I don't use setting lotion, that makes my hair crunchy. Make sure your hair is wet, not damp, when putting on the rollers or your hair might frizz. Oh when I have to wet my hair again I only use water.
4. When you take out the rollers apply a light oil like maybe avocado or jojoba.
5. The "silky" part might have something to do with the flatiron you are using. I have a CHI and it does a great job. If you don't have a CHI or FHI I highly recommend you get one.

Your Rollerset looks Great !!!

Boston maria, that picture is so pretty!!!
Adora, you should be able to set it, however, if you don't want your roots to be uh textured, then you may just need to flat iron them.
If you use a lot of tension when roller setting that should get the roots pretty straight. what type and hair and rollers do you have?

thanks so much ladies!!! anymore rollersetters?<----under the dryer now and will post pics of my rollerset within these few hours.....

Hm. Well, this is a situation (cuz it's the middle of the night and you have too much hair to be starting to airdry this time of night, esp if you have to go anywhere later today).

I hate hand-held blowdryers, but if you have one, I'd suggest that you spray the heck out of your hair with some heat protectant, hold the dryer far away from your head (like as far your arm stretches, so it's not right against your head), and rotate around your head for like, 10 min on the highest heat you allow (ie, if you were gonna set the bonnet dryer on high for 40 min, use high).

When your arm gets tired, take a break, and start again. You can decrease the heat setting as normal after a while (that is, if you're one of those people who normally starts on high, then decreases to medium, and ends on cool).

(This is a last resort measure, and I would never suggest anybody do this regularly, I'm just trying to be helpful :))

hope this works out, i know one thing, im hot like an oven under here.

Oh- duh, me- did you manage to get under your bonnet dryer? If so, good! Ignore my hand-held suggestion. :D

lol, I know what you mean. If you're not in a rush, you could turn it down a bit, no need to fry yourself, lol.

a roller is tangled in my hair!!!! i cant get it out no matter how hard i try!!! i will never rollerset again!!!!!! i will take a pic tomorrow of this roller still in my head. it hurts too!<--aboutt to cut roller out

dam those rollers with the teeth, i finally got it out, i had to talk to the hair to let go of the roller, yes i talk to my hair. oh man, i cant do this anymore. why did i start this thread lol. but i will post pics of my messed up rollerset in the am or afternoon. goodnight

Ooooh, I am so sorry sweetie!!! I got distracted (playing scrabble :giggle:)!

How did you get it out? I hope you didn't have to cut, I would feel so bad for not being here. If it ever happens again (or if this is useful to anybody else), try a lot of oil/sheen spray.

And get rid of those rollers immediately. Those rollers with the teeth are an accident waiting to happen, and for some weird reason, after all the drama with your pics and all, I feel e-'invested' in your hair. (not to sound stalker-ish, lol) So, no more rollers with teeth for you, Miss Adora!! :) Also, I think you should probably be using a larger sized roller (unless you wanted smaller curls) cuz it looks like it would take forever and a day to dry.

Ok, I wrote a book, lol, I'm done.

What kind of rollers did you use? the mesh ones?

I think I'm going to follow this tutorial. She uses mesh rollers and I was thinking about the satin ones...

Please don't give up after the first try. I hate to hear people say that. If I gave up after my first try on something new I'd never get anything achieved with my hair, lol. Even after I fail I keep trying until I get it right...or close to right, lol. Trial and error!

Those rollers are not gonna give you a smooth set and the teeth will cause problems (like you've already experienced with it getting caught in your hair). You're gonna need the magnetic ones. Better luck next time!
