I have to comb my hair or I would have lots of hair leaving my head. I use a comb when I have lots of conditioner in my hair.
Me too...lately I've been using a denman brush instead of a comb though.
Limiting comb use, I have DEFINITELY seen less breakage and split ends. Once I'm out of the shower, I don't use a comb, and I'll only use a brush to slick down a ponytail
What are the benefits of detangling and managing your natural hair with just your hands?
Do you ever detangle your hair with a comb/brush?
TIA!
My hair wouldif I tried doing that.
I am usually in extension braids or no-extension twists and using a comb would just get in the way and lead to tangles and a headache. I've just always found it easier to undo my hair w/o a comb.
Usually if I'm in twists or braids, I tend to live in them, so I usually undo and then redo immediately, one at a time. No comb is ever used or needed for this.
The only time I will use a comb is if I plan to wear my hair out say in an afro puff. Because my hair stays untangled in braids or twists, I don't find myself needing to detangle my hair at all with a comb, in the sense of taking sections and removing caught up hair. I simply just apply SCurl so that my hair is slippery and comb through.
The benefits I've found doing this is I don't pull on my hair, don't get tangles, and my hair doesn't break. A comb especially while undoing twists would lead to knots that I'd have to break off coz I'd get too cranky to have patience with them. I do better going easy with my fingers.
Exactly! First it wouldand then it would lock.

I've heard other people doing this - when do you wash/DC? Do you do that right before you redo them, one at a time, or do you just redo them whenever, or what? I COULD see myself doing this, it's just - when I'm DC'ing - esp. when I'm using ayurvedic powders - I'm paranoid about getting everything rinsed out of my hair....
I have heard of some naturals the only detangle with their fingers, using a comb/brush sparingly.
I tend to find that the less I detangle, the more defined my hair is when I wash in between detangling sessions.
However there are some naturals who don't use a comb or brush ever... and I really want to know the benefits they are getting from this over an extended period of time.
...I'd hate to think what would happen now without combing!
I'd love to see and hear from those who are successful with it and how it's done.
