from TWA status? I'm thinking it's when I can successfully get all of my hair into one high or low ponytail and not have pieces come out. What do you gals say?

I though I had completely graduated from TWA status when it looked big when I banded it or did a blow out. The pics from my avi and sig are both when I was 13 months natural. However, I think I reached that stage when I was about 9 months natural. At month 4-5, my hair was longer than when I first BC and I could wear a decent puff but it still looked short even when stretched out.

I BC'ed with about 2" of hair, btw.

I think I grew of out the TWA stage at about 8-9 months but didn't realize until month 10 or 11.

I think it also depends how long you transition. If you transition a year or more, you will be out of the TWA stage when you BC.:yep:

For me, it was as soon as I stopped feeling like I had a boy's hairstyle. Once I could twist it, my life changed. That was at three or four months. At eight months I straightened and discovered my hair was truly swexy and feminine. That knowledge catapulted me out of any kind of short hair hangups:)

Can some of you break it down to inches? Everyone transitioned for different lengths of time and also BC'd at different points so specifying by number of months is not that helpful.

OP, I've read in previous threads that 5-6 inches is out of TWA stage. But I'm honestly not sure since the responses vary greatly. I'm looking forward to more responses.

I think it depends on your level of shrinkage. Four inches with 20% shrinkage will look like less of a TWA than nine inches with 85% shrinkage. I too, however, go along with the idea that, whatever your shrinkage when you can make a somewhat spherical-looking puff, you officially have an afro.

For me since my hair shrinks up a lot I think I will feel out of the TWA stage when I can pull my hair back in puff. I transitioned up to 9months so my twist have some length but its still short when I where an afro.
