Naturals: Have you ever worn an afro out?

I live in the middle of "Amish Country" and i wear mine almost all the time. Since my BC in February, the only negativity I have ever received is from my mother. I rock my napps wit pride!

Every now and then I'll wear my hair out at work. The reactions I get are utterly hilarious . Sometimes when I've had a long workday, I'll release my ponytail, shake my hair and fluff it out with my hands for the shock value. The resulting afro is huuuuuuge. The first time I did it everybody was like      in amazement. Now some of my co-workers actually look forward to those moments when I get stressed and let my hair out. They love to play in it and smell the products I use on it. :D

I'm a real estate broker and I wore an afro to the first day of my continuing education course. There was one other black person in the room.. folk just stared. I've worn an afro puff and the hairstyle in my avatar to job interviews.. got both jobs.

I have worn my BAA out a few times at school and work
I always get good responses
Most times people dont think it's real they think its an afro wig and thats a compliment to me

But I dont like wearing a picked out fro that often because it gets so tangled and I can't sit back in chairs

Nope. An afro messes up my peripheral vision. I see hair out of the corner of my eye and it irritates the hell outta me.

I'll wear a puff or I'll fold over a scarf to pull my hair away from my face and let it be all big in the back, but no fro for me. Not even at home.

I've worn mine aplenty to anyplace my feet were taking me: work or play. I always get a pleasant reaction. Right now I'm in braids (till the end of the year :/ ) but I'm dying to take them out so I can deep condition, rock my fro, twist it up for a few, untwist and rock it some more.

My youngest sister is an educator/administrator in Los Angeles Unified Schools. She released her midback/wl locks and has a huge fro now. Whenever she wears it out she says her co-workers LOVE it. She wears it to her doctorate classes, her principal apprenticeship programs, wherever, and all she gets is raves.

Well, my hair naturally fros out, so I have an afro all the time. I have worn shrunken afros and stretched afros w/hair accessories for work and play. I save my stretched afros without scarves/headbands for evening stuff--I consider it a dressy look. I haven't worn a blown out fro though (not sure I would).

I did wear my shake and go fro (no scarf) to my granny's birthday party--and a lot of the folks there hadn't seen me since I'd had my long relaxed hair--quite the shock.

i get men of all races intrigued and in love with my hair.. well my phony afro.

Can I please please see how you're rocking this phony afro?

I agree folks love my puff. I can't wear my hair completely loose it gets to wild. But I've done flat twist going back into a fro, my fro puff/pony tail, and 2 afro puffs which got me all the attention (I was quite surprised) . I would not wear the 2 afro puffs to work. I rock my 2 puffs w/some cute boot cute jeans and fitted shirt or a miniskirt and I look so retro, I love it.

I have never worn my afro out in public before simply because my hair tangles too easily.

Same here, and because I've never done it before everyone would want to have their hands all up in it, and that's a no no.

awww man i will see if my housemate has still got her sisters digi if not will buy a disposable camera to get some pics your way asap

But until then this is what i do
I put my own hair into a bun get it my hair to be slick (the first few inches are natural) by apply some sta sof fro then some elasta QP glaze. Then I wrap the hair around my bun (the afro puff comes like a weave it has a weft), secure if necessacry.. i don't usually i just take one strand and wrap that around my hair aswell. Then you are left with this BIG OL FUNKY AFRO... its super :p
nb: when you first put it on you will need to pick/ unravel the afro out as it comes like a twist afro (i think so it doesn't get all knatted.) This is going to be my stable style whilst transitioning when im giving my hair a rest from the braids/ weaves etc.

I suppose its also really good for those with a TWA who would like to experiment with a BAA
Plus the puff only cost me £6.99

I always wear my hair out and have never gotten a negative reaction. It's the simplest and easiest style for me.

I can't shape it right. One side always looks funny, so I've never worn it out of the house. :ohwell:

Yes I've worn a shrunken fro out. But no I don't wear a stretched out fro. One day I combed my hair all the way out and I got scared:eek: My hair was HUGE. I had to smush that baby back down! I plan on wearing it stretched out for the holidays. I can't walk around in a stretched out fro on a daily basis. It's too much.

Yep, I've worn an afro out to church. I've also wore it out in an afro for school and work but I had a satin tie band around my edges (it was more like a big afro puff).
