I'm 7 months into my transition. I'm also interested in responses to this question. I've been using Fantasia IC gel which seems to loosen up my roots a little.

Have you tried applying more moisturizer to them? I used to use mango butter on them and it would soften/loosen it up.

Different products would work for me during the various stages of my transition. The 6-9 month was the difficult stage for me and during that time I used Surge14 to help smooth out the roots for easy detangling. Then when that stopped working I used a Pantene conditioner. I also found that Creme of Nature (yellow/green) worked really well for me without following it up with a conditioner. I would just apply a leave-in and
oil.

HTH

I just realized the products that I mentioned Surge/CON are no longer available.
