Naturals - Anyone Flat Iron once a month??

No set backs. At one time I was doing it ever 2 weeks, but now that my hair is braided, it's only once a month. I slather my ends with sabino and of course the rest of my hair.

I also use lacio lacio mixed with water, on top of the conditioner that I leave a little in upon drying (lacios a leave in conditioner anyways), it just makes for optimum moisture. I sometimes take a tiny (less than dime size) amount of amla and olive creme by qhemet and run it though my hair before the sabino too. To me it's about : moisture retention, and protection. I haven't had any problems, in fact, in December, when I take down my braids, I'm probably going to flat iron and be past the mid back point I've been striving for since I was top of brastrap in March/April. I've also been eating 80 percent veggies (or more) and eggs and fish, so my hair seems to be growing super fast. In Oct (early when I did a hair check I was just almost at mid back...so I am retaining all the length.

Also I do NOT blow dry my hair when I flat iron. I sit under a soft hooded dryer. I may also add that everyone's different but I will say that once a month is something anyone can achieve with the right protection. My curls have always bounced back into place...er should I say my kinks. If you were going for 2 x a month, you'd have to follow some of the tips I picked up from pink skates and others. MOISTURE, lots of deep conditioning, etc. But once a month, don't even worry about it. Get the right protection (heat) and don't lose your mind with the heat (I'll only go to 4, or 375...I switch back and forth between those) and you'll be fine.

luckiestdestiny, what do you mean you sit under the dryer? With the hair in rollers? And 375 is your flatiron setting? THanks :)

I thought I was going to do that. Or do like a blow out more often. But, I have honestly gotten really use to nappy hair and no heat appliances. lol Even though I bought cadillac appliances almost a year ago. I have the maxiglide and this Ion ionic tourmaline ceramic blow dryer from sally's that is AMAZING. It dries the hair really quickly and my hair was shiny. I've only used the flat iron once and it looked like a blow out. I've used the blow dryer twice haha.

I think I am going to buy some rollers and start trying to roller set.
