*This is for those who do not use heat frequently*

doing something with your hair, like smoothing on conditioner, and was taken aback by how much your hair had grown. This was me yesterday. I haven't used heat in a while (and even when I do, there is still alot of curl left), so I haven't really had a chance to see my length yet. So I've recently began doing consistent protective styles (more out of convenience) and I was deep conditioning my hair. As I was smoothing the conditioner on and combing through, I felt my hair getting longer and longer in my hand (I honestly thought that my hair was about to fall out of my head :crying3:). I continued smoothing it and noticed that very little hair came out in the comb, so I quickly grabbed my mirror and checked how it looked. Well to my wonderful surprise it was not only was it well past apl it was touching the top of my brastrap  (that is before it started curling up again). Even most of the sides/bangs are at collarbone/shoulder length now.

I lurve your puff! do you have any recent pics of when it's straightened? I'm sure you don't but when/if you straighten please post pics. I'll bet your hair is purrty that way too!

Congrats on the length progress. I know what you mean about shrinkage. I don't use heat often but sometimes I get tempted to flat iron my hair just to see the true length of my hair. But I'm still worried about heat damage so I refrain.

I hear you girl. Shrinkage had me thinking my hair didn't grow at all this summer. It always looks the same length. My hair doesn't stretch very far in it's natural state, even when I pull it. So it wasn't until I flat ironed that I realized that it grew. Shrinkage definitely confuses things.

Absolutely!!!
I'm transitioning without the big chop
and I really notice my growth when
I'm doing my co-washes when I'm
right under the showerhead... I feel
my hair creeping towards APL...
I like it that way because when I do use heat
it's a surprise and treat for me to really see
how much it is growing.

oh definitely!

i'm natural and i'm always shocked at my growth
because my shrinkage is crazy.
when i started feeling a little hair on my back
while washing recently...i was like "...whoa?"

i'm going to try my hand at a flat iron
for this christmas - so, we'll see what happens.

dun dun dunnnnnn

I agree with you. I haven't used heat since April, and I don't plan to until I reach APL. And I'll only be doing that so that I can trim.

Recently though, I was co-washing, and I felt hair on my back! I freaked out a little and jumped out the shower. But then I checked the mirror and saw it was just my hair. I stretched it and I saw I'm past shoulder length when in April I was neck length, so I'm somewhat tempted to straighten, but I'll wait because I want to be shocked too. :yep:

BTW, you have gorgeous hair.

I had this feeling too this spring and summer, got to love shrinkage:ohwell::grin:

i luvs your puff to KB! i have always noticed how your hair "blows up" like mine does, especially at the ends, whew! LOL - "fullness" just doesn't seem like the right adjective to describe it, does it?

anyway, i rarely use heat since going natural and it's always a pleasant surprise to see your length in all it's glory, a real moral booster for sure!

Our natural hair is so cool in that way ;)

I get excited when i notice my hair has grown but it's almost impossible to revel in it due to the shrinkage. it can even get a bit discouraging sometimes especially when you see all the pretty, long relaxed heads around here.

besides your twists/braids hanging better or differently, wash n gos and puffs do that shapeshifting thang on ya in a heartbeat :drunk::spinning:, that's really the only way i actually realize it's grown so much and get a bit of spiritual lift that way .

Enjoy yourself and take pride in your accomplishments. Good job!!!

I know right. If you hadn't checked your fotki recently, I've officially adopted you has a hair twin . I've never met anyone whose hair behaves so similarly to mine. Its pointless for me to even try and type it due to the fact that it can "appear" to be 2c/3a--> to 4a/b/c :spinning:

Funny - when my hair gets wet it shrinks MORE. Although you can see from my siggy I have some experience with the facade that is shrinkage. It's like a dense coily cloud. When I started flat ironing I couldn't believe that it just kept getting longer! It's like a magic trick! :lachen:
