Do any of you wear them??

I want to gel my hair back, even though I know that it's bad, but I don't have many options right now...I'm financially disabled. Anywho, my hair was straightened last week, so will it revert back? I'm confused!

Well I'm transitioning with most natural hair now and I wear "phony ponies." I use quotes because I make my own ponytail out of weft hair. I do gel my hair back using a mixture of fantasia IC gel and EQP glaze and have been doing this for about 8 months with no adverse effects. I just make sure to do this on freshly washed hair and to mix my gels with lots of water to avoid crunchy feeling.

If you have your hair straigtened, not sure because some gels might cause it to revert. I do not have to straighten my hair to use phony ponies and most naturals do not. It's a great protective style for me!

I wear phony ponies, not as much as I use to though (I was a little concerned about the stress of brushing my hair back and securing it with a ponytail holder too often) But when I do I wet my hair in the shower, use fanstasia ic gel, pin the front in a little bump because my hair in the front is too short to go into the ponytail holder, and pull back the rest of my hair into a ponytail holder. I then moisturize my ponytail, put a baggy over it, and use bobby pins to secure the phony pony over my baggied ponytail. Hope this helps. There are pics in my 1st fotki album.

I wear phony ponies and I don't gel back, I just cornrow straight back and add my comb attachment phony pony, because gel in the summertime will not hold my hair down, Not even that old skool brown gel LOL!!! Even in the winter, The minute I start to sweat I start to see poofiness LOL!!! Since your's is longer than mine maybe you can cornrow the front and sides back and then do what Karamelcutie does with the Baggy!

I have worn phony ponies in the past. I had to back off because of breakage at the crown and in addition to concern about the hairline.

I usually wet/dampen my hair. Put a lot of leave-in conditioner in and then go over that w/a Fantasia IC gel (either the brown or blue one) and then put my hair in a ponytail and then the phony and tie my hair down. On occasion, I will cornrow the crown and then put the hair in the perimeter in the ponytail and then put the phony tail on over that.

I think the straightened hair may revert with the use of gel as gels (at least the Fantasia IC) are water-based???? but if you brush your hair down well and then tie it down with a scarf, you should be ok....

I have never used a phony pony but you surely can do it. It's extra easy. I reccomend either braiding or flat twisting your hair. The baggie would be a wonderful idea also. I am thinking about doing this in the winter.

I've never worn a phony pony, but like turnergirl I don't see a problem with wearing one. As long as you are careful not to pull your hair back too tight and stress your edges it would probably be fine. If you start seeing signs of breakage where you attach the pony, then you will need to give your hair a rest from it for a while. Try to place it on different areas of your head and not in the same place all the time. Good luck, girl. :)

I have a curly one that I wear but I don't straighten my hair to wear it. I gel my hair back when it's wet. You won't be able to tell if your hair will revert completely until you wash it. If you're going to slick your hair back now while it's still straight, and don't want it to revert you need to use some type of pomade. Don't use a gel or anything that is water based because your hair will revert. The fantasia gel and the fantasia ice pomade will make it revert (some ladies on the board said the ice pomade doesn't make it revert but it made my hair revert.). EQP Glaze and Let's Jam will too. So will protein gel. I used the EQP Curl Wax without at problem. Or you could use a little grease and tie it down. That should work.
