I love colr and I was wondering are there any good hair color products that you can use that does not have peroxide and amonia that gives good results. I like the browns and reds.

So you're not trying to lighten, you're just trying to enhance your color with brown or red?

I just used Clairol Beautiful Collection...in a neutral dark brown (just covering gray and enhancing my color). It's pretty gentle. I don't have the bottle with me to tell you the ingredients, but it doesn't lighten color, it just deposits it. I also like

Natural Instincts has no ammonia and low peroxide.

I have very fragile hair and the key for me was to do an Aveda colour which is very gentle on the hair (can only be done at an Aveda Salon or Institute) because they use plant based colours. Also, not to go too far up on the colour chart or risk damage unless your hair is strong. My natural hair colour is a 2 (off black) and I went up to a 5. I use protein treatments to keep breakage from occurring. I like it because even when the colour grows out it looks natural and I have absolutely no damage.

Best,

I have heard good things about Aveda color...I may have to look into it one day.

Right now I have permanent color. My roots are dark. I wanted to make it all one color. My DH said it would make my natural look better. I talked to my hair stylist and he said that he could use low peroxide. I just want to be on the safe side.
Thanks for the advice.

another goodie is manic panic... i use a color called divine wine ... my hair is as close to black as you can get but it still takes

oh wow, that's amazing. Is it permanent, or semi-permanent, and how does it affect your hair e.g. dryness, loss of elasticity etc.

just ran to go get the bottle...
its a rinse... semi permanent.... it doesnt damage my hair at all....ive been using it for a while now.. the only harm is my fingertips turning pink on when i first wash it :perplexed other than that its some good stuff... it reminds me of a rinse that i used to use back in the day by jerome russell called punky colors... btw the site is www.manicpanic.com

This website is really interesting. Since they aren't permanent I could see myself testing some off the wall colors on my hair. Maybe I could revive the original Kellis look. :look:

Ive used manic panic as well during my relaxed days. It wont damage your hair at all but the downside is it runs all over everything. I dyed my hair blue with it and green and my white pillows were blue and green as well. As well as any none black piece of clothing. It will bleed for quite awhile but it does not damage. I used to bleach my hair before putting it in...(pre lhcf days, pre caring about my hairs health as well) and the color was super vibrant, I did it on black hair and I could only see the color in the light. Everyone else saw it though...
