Hi All,

I'm a longtime natural, but I have a few questions I'd like to ask of my sistren who are relaxed.

1. What is your favorite setting agent and why?

2. Do you ever use pincurls as a "set" as opposed to roller sets?

3. What's the biggest no-nos when it comes to rollersets?

4. Do you always use endpapers?

5. Yes or no to holding spray AFTER taking out a set and styling?

6. What's your favorite leave-in?

7. What's your favorite heat protectant?

There are others but I don't want to be greedy!;)

Bumping for a couple of responses. :)

Right now I'm thinking either Keracare or diluted Lottabody based on some info from other boards as far as a setting agent.

1. What is your favorite setting agent and why?
I like Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion - I've use it for my roller sets. I like it because it kept my hair soft and my roots pretty smooth. When I ran out I decided to use my diluted Lottabody and I have no complaints about that.

2. Do you ever use pincurls as a "set" as opposed to roller sets?
I have yet to use pincurls, twist/braid-outs as a set but they are on my list of things to do. I do pincurl at night sometimes.

3. What's the biggest no-nos when it comes to rollersets?
Don't really know???

4. Do you always use endpapers?
I stopped using end papers because I can't stand it when it sticks to your hair. Haven't used them in a long while.

5. Yes or no to holding spray AFTER taking out a set and styling?
I never use holding spray.

6. What's your favorite leave-in?
I like IC, 911 for damaged hair, Infusium and Aphogee leave-ins.
They are in order of preference.

7. What's your favorite heat protectant?
911 Heat Protectant. The spray and the creme.
But I cannot do with out using a pressing oil with heat protectant in it even though I am relaxed. Right now I've been using Wonder Gro High Heat Pressing Oil (pinkish color).

1. What is your favorite setting agent and why?
Fabusilk,l tiny bit ottabody and qp silk mix makes my hair soft and full looking

2. Do you ever use pincurls as a "set" as opposed to roller sets?
Cant pincurl for nothing :ohwell: I will keep trying.

3. What's the biggest no-nos when it comes to rollersets?
Not properly smoothing the hair on the roller

4. Do you always use endpapers?
Not when i use flexirods

5. Yes or no to holding spray AFTER taking out a set and styling?
No holding spray

6. What's your favorite leave-in?
Cantu shea butter

7. What's your favorite heat protectant?
Motions...helps if i blow out the set

Hi Patient1,

1. What is your favorite setting agent and why? I use Ojon Hydrating Styling Cream (which is also moisterizing) or diluted Lottabody. I like my sets soft.

2. Do you ever use pincurls as a "set" as opposed to roller sets? I haven't tried to pin curl but it is on my to-do list. It looks a lot more comfortable for sleeping.

3. What's the biggest no-nos when it comes to rollersets? Not adding moisture and sealing with oils and smoothing the hair down flat on the largest roller you can use. Also not pulling the hair tight against the roller for smoothness.

4. Do you always use endpapers? Most of the time. I think it makes the hair smother, keeping the ends flat, and protecting the ends.

5. Yes or no to holding spray AFTER taking out a set and styling?I use no-alcohol hair spray, right now it is Ojon Fortifying, Lift and Hold Spray. I use this more in humidity or when my hair is up. As it continues to grow, I won't need to spray it to keep the small strays in place when it is up.

6. What's your favorite leave-in? My absolute favorite in the whole wide world is Ojon's Revitilizing Mist. It doesn't weigh my hair down or feel coated and dull like many I have tried in the past. I also like Ojon's Glossing Cream as a leave-in.

7. What's your favorite heat protectant? "Ojon's Nurishing Styling Cream or Glossing Cream"

I'm not an Ojon pusher. I'm just really, really happy right now! Please forgive me. I wish I were getting a kick-back. I am trying to find less-expensive alternatives though.

1. What is your favorite setting agent and why? I don't use any, actually. I tried Motions before, but it seemed to weigh my hair down.

2. Do you ever use pincurls as a "set" as opposed to roller sets? No, but sometimes I use them to preserve rollersets.

3. What's the biggest no-nos when it comes to rollersets? I would say not makign sure the hair is laying flat and smooth against the roller.

4. Do you always use endpapers?Never

5. Yes or no to holding spray AFTER taking out a set and styling? No

6. What's your favorite leave-in?Don't use one

7. What's your favorite heat protectant? I use the generic Sally brand, Silk Effects

HTH!

1. What is your favorite setting agent and why? I don't use setting lotion. I find that the alcohols that they contain are too drying for my hair.

2. Do you ever use pincurls as a "set" as opposed to roller sets? I rollerset on my wash days (Su, Tu, Th) and I pincurl on all the other nights. The pics in my siggy are from a pin curl set that I did shortly after my last relaxer.

3. What's the biggest no-nos when it comes to rollersets? Don't roll super tight. This puts stress on the hair.

4. Do you always use endpapers? I never use endpapers because I use metallic rollers. They aren't needed with those.

5. Yes or no to holding spray AFTER taking out a set and styling? I don't use any kind of holding agents or finishing sprays for the same reason as number 1: too drying (for my hair)

6. What's your favorite leave-in? Still searching. I do use a few drops of jojoba oil to seal in moisture after I wash/condition.

7. What's your favorite heat protectant? The only time I use heat is the 30 minutes that I spend under the bonnet dryer drying my rollerset so I don't use heat protectants. I have a less is more approach to products!

HTH!!!

1. What is your favorite setting agent and why?
Diluted Lotta Body. I just got a bottle of Avlons setting lotion. Cant wait to start using it.

2. Do you ever use pincurls as a "set" as opposed to roller sets?
Cant do pincurls. i cant imagine them making my hair straight if I do them while my hair is wet!

3. What's the biggest no-nos when it comes to rollersets?
Not letting your hair completely dry and not making sure that your ends are not flat against the roller

4. Do you always use endpapers?
Yes. To prevent them sticking to my hair, I lightly spritz with Olive Oil Spray by ORS
5. Yes or no to holding spray AFTER taking out a set and styling?
NOOOOOOO
6. What's your favorite leave-in?
Currently, Avlons. I have also used NTM with much success
7. What's your favorite heat protectant?
Do not use one since I do not use any direct heat on my hair.

Hi Ladies,

Thank you so much for the responses. I wanted to check my relaxed remembrances and my research with what the experts here had to say. It seems I was on the right track.

Just as background I was happily relaxed until was 19 going on 20. From my teens until that time I took care of my own hair: self-relaxing, deep conditioning, trimming, cutting, everything! My hair was healthy, sheeny, bouncy up until the day I cut it all off. So

I loooove playing in hair, styling hair, shampooing, deep-conditioning, whatever. I love grooming locs, braiding hair, twisting it, rollersetting it, on and on. (I don't offer chemical services though I know how and leave that to the pros!!!) I love doing HAIR!!

As far as rollersetting, I've used black and sassy on one client and liked the results but wanted to try something lighter. My instincts also say that holding spray at the end isn't necessary but I wanted to doublecheck.

I did a set on my mom's hair tonight. As a setting lotion, I used EXACTLY 1 part lottabody, 3 parts filtered water, 1 part daily doctor, and one part infusium 23 and mixed in a spray bottle. I washed her hair with New Era Moisturizing Shampoo and deep conditioned with a mix that included honey. Sat her under the dryer for 15 minutes, rinsed with lukewarm water, a quick combthru with some optimum leave-in, and then spritz all over with my setting lotion, I used basic hard plastic rollers but used the regular silver clips instead of the snap on thingies, she sat under the dryer for 45 minutes and was done.

We took the rollers out. I added about a nickels worth of optimum shine serum and then we fingerstyled.

Her hair gleamed like GLASS! I had someone else coming in and she was tired, but I'll take pics tomorrow. I think the shine was the result of the honey and the optimum products. The soft hold of the setting mix was a big help too. She had soft bouncy hold to her curls.

Thanks again for the opinions.
