hey all- I have been here a couple of years now - tried zillions of products methods - my hair though hates me. I have a shower filter - I clarify with small amount of baking soda- I believe protein hates me to and oh yes very natural - products like me for a bit but then then hate me too next wash. The only couple of pluses are that a)after trying so money products my hair has not fallen out! b) folks say the color is nice , hair is shiney c) I have been able to retain length and my hair is still growing. I have thin strands but a thick amount of hair. I am at wits end. My hair will feel gummy and stick together after a couple of days - I use a tad bid of castor oil- i have tried other oils butters and even experimented with nothing - still gummy hair - I cannot for the life of me even finger detangle when my hair is try- I twist my hair after a wash - when dry it looks nice untwisted - by second day it is fluf no curl pattern- why would I have gummy hair that sticks together it also feels slightly course! I feel like I have spent millions - I want to solve this problem before a possible move to Hamburg in a few months I know I will have more battles coming up. Please help!! anyone have similar issues??

Try this shampoo...

Volume Clarifying Shampoo is a unique dual-purpose shampoo designed to volumize hair that needs body, and clarify hair to remove buildup while exfoliating the scalp. Lift and body at the roots are achieved through exfoliation and purification. White Willow Bark extract and other purifying agents help remove dulling residues. These important benefits provide healthy scalp and helps promote the healthy growth of new hair. Normalizes hair following chemical services. Excellent for fine hair, thinning hair, hard water areas, medicinal deposits, or to remove chlorine water. This shampoo is 100% Sodium Sulfate/Chloride Free.

Main Ingredients: White Willow Bark extract, Honey, Wild Yam, Sage, Green Tea, Wheat Germ, Guar, Biotin (vitamin H) Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), and Sodium Myreth Sulfate).

Use it once a week before anything else in your wash routine. Once you obtain desired results ("non gummy" hair) then use it as a clarifying shampoo when necessary...

Hope this helps

ETA: DILUTE IT! I put two drops (literally) in an 8oz applicator bottle, then add water to about the 6 oz line, shake it up, then apply where needed...

You color your hair, maybe that is part of the culprit?

Can you remember a time when your hair was not gummy? What where you doing then that you are no longer doing or need to stop doing?

Go back to the basics. Stop all the products until you can figure out what is causing the issues.

You may have to get a little unnatural and try commercial products
Try a clarifying shampoo and cone free deep conditioners and leave ins. See how that leaves your hair feeling

Ty for the comments and tips :) I will look into that shampoo soon. I don't color my hair except for Henna once in a blue moon. I will have to think back to when I was last pleased with my hair. I would say childhood! lol long time ago. I will do more thinking on this though.
But you name the product i've tried it! ugh

Have you clarified your hair recently?

Do you only use natural products?

This gummy business may be solved by a hearty clarifying shampoo. It may make some of the products you currently own work better on your hair, once the old gummy buildup has been washed away....

Or, maybe since the gumminess happens every few days, maybe you're just one of those people who needs to wash more frequently. Like every other day.

Also, what styles are you doing? Are you applying product on top of product every day between washes?

Maybe go the simple route, do a good clarifying conditioner, a DC that has worked decently for you in the past and then twist your hair up and leave it alone for a week without adding additional products.

Kaykaybobay, I agree with MsCocoface about going back to basics. I will tell that a lot of natural products don't leave me loving my hair. I remember trying a natural shampoo that was SLS free from AO (don't know which one) and it left my hair feeling weird, coated with something like tree sap, if you can imagine sticky but not really gummy. CON a popular with most leaves my hair hard and looking grayish. While it'd make my hair feel nice and slippery while using it, it'd not feel that great after rinsing. The other day it dawned on me that I don't reach for Elucence as much either...but that could be because I prefer gel-like shampoos (Garnier Fructis, Giovanni 50:50 Balance). After Emergencee, I do like a creamy shampoo but I reach for Nexxus Therappe instead of Elucence. Go figure.

Anyway, the day I discovered I really had soft hair made of cute really coils was after a scare with baking soda that swore me off the stuff but a scare that actually showed me how different my hair could be without CON. I had read on the forum that adding baking soda to your shampoo made it a clarifier. So I did, but the minute it touched my hair, I started to smell that lye-like smell that was reminiscent of relaxing. Scared the heck out of me! What if my hair straightened. Almost in tears I rinsed it off and found my hair looking duller than I ever remembered and it felt very rought. I quickly conditioned with samples L'Anza that I had gotten in the mail (don't remember which one in particular) and my hair felt so much better. I ACV rinsed and then when my hair dried, I twisted it. And when I CW'd for moisture the next time in twists and then ACV rinsed, I saw for the first time in all my life, my hair form into cute little spirals. Also it seemed to have a sheen I'd never seen before.

Next time I washed my hair with CON (no BS this time) I noticed my hair didn't feel right, so I used whatever other sulphate shampoo I had and then conditioned and ACV rinsed and once again, my hair felt as good as it did the day I used L'Anza. Since the forum "law" was you can't leave your hair not moisturized and I had also learned how serums seal hair, initially I would apply a serum over my damp twists and body did they feel good to touch when they dried. But I baggy nightly and baggying serum led to itches and just didn't make sense to me...so I had to drop the serum. Still I had discovered that my hair did better with less, stayed soft even if I didn't apply moisturizer/leave-in--as long as I DC'd weekly.

The first time I wore my hair out, I knew I had to use some leave-in in order to comb my hair with ease, but had no idea what. I tried shea butter, hated it. Tried butters, hated them. Tried oils, hated them. Tried a mixture of bees wax, cocoa butter (melted in the microwave) and S Curl Gel, :nono: didn't like it either. Then I tried S Curl ALONE, and OMG, softness like you would not believe.

So for me, the secret was to start with naked hair and then try just one thing. If it didn't work, try something else the next time you wash your hair. When I first used S Curl, my hair was damp and it dried up hard, but I applied again and my hair felt soft. I plaited it for the night and baggied and the next morning, the softness was still there and hair felt like it could go on forever w/o ever needing moisture again. I never needed to apply again until the day I washed.

So for me, my regimen involves shampoos that clean the scalp, and then conditioners made for dry hair that I apply only to hair not scalp, then ACV rinse. And if wearing my hair out, S Curl to provide slip for combing. If hair is worn in braids or twists, nothing. And my hair has been a joy to live with.

thinks all for the tips- i will start anew this weekend since I have nothing planned but so far this week I discovered washing every couple of days is helpful! So far a positive note :)

i think you should shampoo with an actual shampoo and if it has sulfates...thats fine. just deep condition afterwards.
