How many inches of natural hair did you need to pull your hair back, like say if I wanted to put a phony pony on? I don't wanna chop until I get it long enough to pull it back.

Hmmm! I am not sure but I wear the Comb attachment Drawstrings and I have to Cornrow my hair back and put it on because it won't lay down with Gel, I would probaly say like 6-7 inches to get it to lay back good.

I can't wait until I can lay mine back, But how long is your hair now?

I'd say 5 to 6 inches....that length with some Fantasia IC Sparklelites gel, slap on a phony pony and keep it moving! :driver:

Could a puff be done with 5-6 inches of natural hair? I'm talking about a puff with one of those Ouchless headbands.

I have 5-6 inches of hair and I have a small puff that looks bigger than it really is because of the thickness of my natural hair. Its nothing spectacular but you have to start somewhere!

I don't know exactly how many inches, but I know my hair was a little above shoulder length when stretched.

My hair is a little past my shoulder and I still can't wear a puff.

Anybody wanna tell me the secret?

It depends on how you want your hair styled when you attach the phony pony. I transitioned using phony ponies and individual braids and micros. If you want to smooth your own hair back with gel or something. It will take at least shoulder length without really stretching your hair out straight like with heat. If you are going to cornrow your hair and attach a phony pony then you really only need about 3 to 4 inches.

I can do a baby bunny ponytail (or bunny ears) and pull it back for a phony pony. I have about 7-7.5" of hair, and about 3" unstretched.

I could do a high ponytail when I first chopped, and I had about 3-4. I wouldn't suggest doing it on hair that short because that's a lot of stress on the hair. But 6 inches should do it.

Hmmm... I have about 3 inches of new growth plus another 3-4 inches of texlaxed hair which doesn't look much different from the natural hair. It just doesn't shrink up as much. The rest is relaxed ends but I want them gone. Do you think that's enough hair to pull back? Maybe I'll just wait a little bit longer... Thanks ladies!!

Are you gonna pull back your natural hair plus the Telaxed hair? If so it sound like it would be enough, Why don't you try it out one day and see how it looks, I have only about 3 inches so I have to cornrow mine then add my clip on, but with those 2 sets of inches combines it sounds like enough.

Let us know how it turns out! I would like to know.

My hair in the avatar was about 5-6"...
So for a nice sized puff- 5-6"
For a phony pony(neat)- 4-5"(this really depends on how much your hair shrinks)

My old method of the puff- wash condition, add a little styling product, wrap scarf while wet around edges(3" from hair line up) and let it air dry...You'll have a huge puff, and don't forget to fluff.

Phony pony- always work on wet hair....smooth with Mango butter maybe a little gel if needed, but mango butter and a brush will do the trick...smooth with fingers, and dont let your hair hang out. THROW THE SCARF ON as soon as your secured your hair up(add your protective products on the ends) and let air dry...i do this at night and sprtiz with water and a dab of mango butter in the morning.

Oh- one more tip(got it from Essence)- use a tooth brush on edges...I soak mine in MTG(I'm a bit obsessed with MTG!)

Hope this helps!

I would say 7 - 8 inches, but depending on how you want to wear the ponytail without damaging your hair with all of the pulling and tugging it takes to get the ponytail accomplished, I would suggest measuring your head from the front of the hairline, to where you want the ponytail. I think that you would need at least 1 inch of hair that goes beyond the ponytail to do it without damaging your hair too much.
