Is there anyone on this site transitioning without doing the big chop?If so, I have an album that shows the styles and techniques used. I have been growing out my perm for 1 year.

Im doing a "fake" transition, i plan on not straightning my hair for at least two years.. so far im 5 an a half months in. Id like to see ur album as well

I'm with you. I'm doing a pseudo transistion. I'm trying to see how long I can go without relaxing or applying much heat. So far things are going well. I'm 5 weeks post relaxer. I think I've finally found a few staple products to soften my hair.

I would love to see how your transition went or is going. I have been transitioning for 8 months now and it's had it's ups and downs. I plan to transition for a year or at least until my birthday in March, which will make it 14 months, if I don't cut before then out of frustration from tangles or any other possible problems.

Shelli,
Which staple products have you found to soften? I really need some good ones. I'm 4mos. post relaxer, and I'm at my wits end!!!

I did use LUST the other day, and although I got some slip, I didn't feel that it was that moisturizing/softening overall.

Anything you can suggest would really help, b/c I'm really trying to get over this hump and not relax out of frustration!!!

Ayana,

(I lovvee that name by the way, its my daughters also)

Lustre's and Pink oil, make my hair and my daughter's hair HARD. I switched to Motions which was a whole LOT better. I just bought Organic Root Stimulators hair oil.....IT IS THE BOMB!!......light, softening, and smells great....dang, i sound like a commercial...lol. It is expensive, but its worth it, imo

Tennile I transitioned without the "big chop" it took me a year and some months to basically grow my natural hair to the length my relaxed hair was the year before. I'd just got trims monthly and before I knew it there was no relaxer left.

LUST doesn't work well for me. However here's the regime I've been using.

1.) Keracare Moisturising shampoo and conditioner - I like to sit under the dryer for 20 minutes with the conditioner on.
2.) Biolage Leave-in conditioner (mixed with distilled water) - I use this to detangle my hair.
3.) Mix equal parts Elasta Mango Butter and hair gel (no alcohol). Apply to hair paying special attention to the perimeter of my head. Don't over/under use the products. I use a quart size of each as I'm 4a/b.
4.) Comb/brush hair into low ponytail.
5.) Apply a bit more mango butter to ponytail and spritz with curl activator. Place baggie over ponytail.
6.) Tie hair up for the night.
7.) Next day I put the ponytail into a bun and put a little Kemi Shea Butter pomade on my edges and go.

I do this a few times a week since I tend to use conditoner washes most evenings. At the very least, I spritz my hair with the distilled water/Biolage concoction each night.

Oh, Carols Daughter HHB softens my hair just as well as the mango butter!

Since I've stopped using products with mineral oil and petrolatum I don't get that waxy buildup anymore. I'm touching my hair now 2 hours after my morning routine. It feels soft, not oily.
