Ok my hair is 3b4a. My staples have been Deva Products but I've been using a few different things lately( started using Ouidad CoWash which my hair loves)

So I notice my hair is dry. I buy AVJ and it Helps but it just feels dry and rough. I add Olive Oil to seal...greasy, rough hair...

So, today I colored my hair ( because of grays), and use the conditioner full of silicones in the box.

My hair feels GREAT. It is smooth and shiny and my twists are supple and buoyant.

What should I do? I have a SLEW of natural products. The only one I haven't tried yet is Karen's Body Beautiful.

I meant to say my hair type is 3c-4a

Check the ingredients for common denominators. It could be your hair doesn't like a couple of ingredients in these products.

For me, it was aloe in any form--makes a dry crispy mess. Lavendar--breakage. Castor oil. Severe skin reaction.

I avoid products with these ingredients and am fine. It took a year to figure out what the heck was wrong with my hair though. But it's part of the journey.

Silicon is only a temporary fix. It's just a coating that makes the hair feel nice for a minute but over the course of a few months, you might notice your hair is drier than when you started.

One thing that makes a difference before using natural products is clarifying or chelating before starting on your natural products journey. Start with a clean slate. that way any cones and polymers won't be coating your hair and your strands can absorb instead of repelling moisture.

Once you have your staples and your moisture/protein balance figured out, you will feel and see the difference.

are you all natural or transistioning?

I used to feel the same way until i found products that really worked for me. They are Claudie s revitlalizer deep moisturizing conditioner, renew protein, and normalizing conditioner, ANYTHING silk dreams (as long as it does not have aloe vera). These 2 lines are what made me give up the cones. I always thought natural products were garbage until trying claudie s and silk dreams. True moisture, deep in the strands that lasts for ever. I love joico moisture recovery treatment bal, and kerastase masquintense, but now i only use them before i blow dry my hair for the a little cone protection.
Like DarkJoy said: find out the ingredients your hair does not agree with. Most natural products are full of aloe vera everything, and this thing gives me terrible crunchy dry breaking hair. Once i eliminated that it was easier for me to find something that works. I also like the phyto products. They are not 100% natural, but they are pretty closed, and most of them are cone free. I love bothe the phytojoba, and phytokarite mask. Good luck. I would love to hear the outcome of your search.

I chelate/clarify but I may be doing it too often. I've decided to leave it alone for right now. My hair always does better with a simpler Reggie.

ronie...I will look into that. Isn't AV supposed to moisturize? I guess hair responds differently.

Yes it is usually added as moisturizing ingredient. It is the main step of the famous chicoro moisture prepoo. But it is very drying to me, even when i was relaxed. The only product with it i seem to be ok with is oyin juices and berries. I only use it to mist my hair to refresh my styles.

AV is not the business for everyone. It destroys my hair. :-(

Use whatever works for your hair. Natural doesn't mean more effective, at least for hair!
I don't see the point of spending money on expensive products that do not work for you.
