I slather mine with coconut oil every night. They are so moist I get oil every time I touch them.

I had this prob, and I just was itching to BC anyway--I use Porosity Control about once every other month, and it does help the hair to retain more moisture. I seal my ends with a water-based product/leave-in, followed by some type of butter or creme (shea butter, olive oil creme, etc), then I slather on some thick castor oil, coconut oil pomade, or good 'ol grease. It really helps to keep the ends moist and healthy, esp. if you seal when the hair is damp.

I would get at least a 1" trim, then concentrate on protecting and keeping the ends healthy from then out...then you can dive into your real BC when you're really ready. HTH

i ended up cutting an inch or so & rebuilding my regimen a bit.. i plan on getting a sew in in a couple of months to hide my hair for a bit

Have you try chelating shampoo then protein then a moisturizer.
