Can you guys link me to some of the threads with best Henna advice. There are so many! I already went through the 'Hennaphilics' thread and there was a lot of good advice there. Just wondering what other threads had a wealth of knowledge.

I was looking for a place that sold the 90ct bottle of Maxi-Hair since vitacost only sells the 60ct version. I ended up at webvitamins.com where I also found Rainbow Henna and Nature's Gate herbal conditioner. In addition to that I got a nice sized bottle of Home Health Castor Oil for $3.00. The Nature's Gate It has a lot of the ingredients you guys suggested to mix in with your henna so that worked out well.

So if you guys can link me, or give me some pointers here, I'd really appreciate it. My hair is really on the grow, and I'm exited! But I need to weigh it down a bit. I like big hair, but huge hair is not for me.

I'm thinking about mixing the Nature's Gate and the castor oil with the henna, and "wearing it" for a few hours, at least one of them being under my hood dryer. Do you all think that would be ok? I have some Aubrey Organics too, but not a lot. Should I add some GPB in there? Do I wash before I apply?

Thanks! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I want to send you a copy of an e-mail I sent my cousin about henna and the homemade herbal tame recipe. My e-mail addy is in my profile--e-mail me so I can fwd it to you. Warning--It's LONG! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif In the meantime, here are some henna links Mahailalee posted:

Wow, thanks for the links! That's a lot of reading... *lol*

Iris:

I did see that thread. Thanks for reposting though. I guess I kinda shyed away from it because it focused on 3b/c hair and I am a 4a/b. But I will look through it again to see if there are any tips I can use.

Oh yeah--
I shampoo and towel dry before I apply the henna. I don't think that info was in my manifesto--er, e-mail. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

hada,
would you say henna is like texturising with a vegetable plant extract since it softens the natural texture and it contains metallic salts so you cannot relax with lye no lye on the same hair agin without haveing breakage from 'double processing?

Hi Ladies,

I have a couple questions, also. Could (completely) Natural ladies please post your Henna recipes and your Henna routines.

Also, I have mostly 4a hair and I'm interested in loosening my coils/curls naturally. Will Henna do this? I don't want my hair to be even close to straight but I would like to naturally combat my major shrinkage (it currently seems like 70 - 80 percent).

Do any of you ladies using Henna have mostly 4a hair? How does the Henna change the look of your hair or your hair texture?

Thank you in advance for all responses. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Hennalucent brand can be used on all chemical services. Sassygirl uses hennalucent and her hair is relaxed and if anyone has read her posts she has nothing but glowing reports about henna. Amethyst I know transitioned using hennalucent also and has had no problems with it either.

For everyone who wants henna recipes, they are linked to the first post I put on this thread. Just click on the link and the recipes will come up.

The Sassygirl in this thread? I thought she was natural... /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm half natural. /images/graemlins/grin.gif The last 4"-5" of my hair is relaxed. That's why I chose the Hennalucent--it's the only one that says it's safe for chemically treated hair because it doesn't coat the hair like other hennas. It penetrates the hair shaft. When I'm fully natural, I plan to switch to a brand that I can buy in bulk like Light Mountain or Rainbow.

Just added 'transitioning' to my profile... /images/graemlins/wink.gif Sorry for the confusion.

I'd like to see 4a routines too! If there are any 100% natural women out there who use henna and have type 4 hair, please respond.

That is a good question,

Once you apply henna, I wouldn't relax it again, If I am understanding your question. Henna also won't "over texturize" the hair either like a chemical. So if you use henna, you will be QUITE safe if using it to de-bulk.

My Recipe:

Rainbow 4oz. henna
castor oil
avocado oil
Rosemary e.o. (for sheen)
Vitamin C powder/crystals ( for smooth cuticles it is acidic so it works well and sheen results)
Apple cidar vinegar ( to secure henna to my silver hairs)
hot water ( mixed with herbs if you'd like, nettles, horsetail)

To de'bulk hair- henna hair 3 consecutive weeks, then reduce to once a month. 4a's will find your hair more manageable. Less frizz. Less tangles.

Ditto. And a quick questions:

You color your hair with henna, no?

Hada how much vit. c do you add to your mix? I'm going to try 1/4 to 1/2 cup of vitamin c ester powder in mine. Thanks big time for the tip /images/graemlins/up.gif

Everyone please see Sweetcocoa's "Paging Hennaphilic Gals" thread. It has a wealth of information on henna. We also have a newbie to the forum named HennaJoy, who is a specialist when it comes to Henna /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Is there an easier way to make this stuff? I can't see myself grtting 6 or 7 different things and mixing it.... can I use a mix like hot six oil to this henna and be ok? Does it stain like hair dye.... help full of questions!
