Hey ladies! I am a long time lurker and I have learned sooo much in the past few months from you all!

I just revamped my fotki and after taking pics today I am so disgusted with my hair. Could you all check out my album and give some advice?

My main style is half wigs everyday. I bun with lots of moisturizer and oil under my wig cap. My hair is growing in so thick and pretty, but my ends are killin me! With them, I'm kinda SL, but I dont think I can trim, I might need to cut back to the bottom on NL...like 2-3 inches. I want it to be even, so it can grow out that way. I don't know if my hair grows uneven or not, since I've only been taking care of it for 3 months.

I know there's a thread about this, but does my case seem a little extreme?

Thanks in advance!

:welcome3:
Since you wear your hair in wigs alot you could always do gradual .5 inch trims if you are not comfortable cutting it all at once.If you're ok with cutting all of the thinner ends at once then go for it.I personaly think its easier to get rid of the thin ends when you first start but its all up to you!

beautiful rollerset by the way

Hi, and welcome.

My ends used to look like that. I'd say to keep wiggin' it, and just cut little by little.

Welcome. I think that scissors are the only answer to nasty ends, especially at the start of your hair care journey.

I think you should just go ahead and cut those ends. They don't look good at all. Your hair will grow back, and will look prettier.

My hair breaks the same way ( breakage in the middle - check out my siggy). In January, I decided to stopping holding on. Even though my hair was long I couldn't truly claim APL. So in January I took of 2.5 inches. Bianna, it's truly a personal choice. I prefer to cut and then grow evenly.

It's your choice, but without the breakage, your hair would look much healthier. You're right; the roots are very healthy. There is a thread somewhere with cute bob pictures...I'm not sure about your face shape, but I bet that would be a cute look to start afresh with!

Sometimes trimming off nasty ends isn't fun, but once you get over the initial disappointment there is usually a feeling of relief and a happy outlook on getting to start fresh.

I don't know when you started taking serious care of your hair, but I see that you joined the board in Dec. '08--so I'll assume that you started some time around then. I always tell people who've recently begun healthy hair practices, that there is still hair on your head from when you were not taking such good care of your hair and so that hair is still affected by that. It didn't automatically turn healthy once you started taking better care of your hair. (wouldn't it be nice if it did though!)

If you are not planning to wear your hair down then no one will really see those ends and you could do a gradual trim. Or you could just trim it all at once and start fresh. That would probably make you feel better actually. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :)

I would like to say welcome and good luck on your hair journey. Congratulations on progress already made, and I know its hard to let go of the ends. I am in the same boat as you but I'm stuck on the fence when it comes to cutting my ends now,or waiting until I make it to my first hair goal...I've seen mixed reviews on the board in regards to cut or not to cut ends. I think I will eventually end up slowly cutting mine off after I post an update in late April.

The ladies are making a good point when they say since you are wearing wigs no one will notice, but again the ultimate choice is yours.

Keep up the good work.

I really agree. I dont know why I thought that once I started really taking care of my hair, every strand would be perfect. Those ends are the oldest part of my hair....and they've been through a heck of a lot! But, man my new growth is serious... megatek is the truth! As is cowashing, low manipulation, DC....etc...!!!

I'm going to do a gradual trim...about 1/2 inch every relaxer.

For now, I'll just stick to my reggie and try not to get discouraged. Thanks ladies!!!!!
