Thanks ladies for all the advice and supportive words. I relaxed last night, but didn't bother the nape area. So 12 more weeks until I relax that area.

At first I was a tad disappointed, but then I realized that my hair can't be flowing down my back overnight.

I am happy with the little growth that I did receive. I am on the oil challenge now, so that may help as I intend to do scalp massages with the oil too.

Thanks again ;)

wow your hair is growing very fast. looks good and will be hanging down you back b4 u know it. keep up the good work!

Hi Kaddy,

Your hair looks great!!!! Please, please let me know how it goes as far as not perming the nape area. I have the same problem in my nape area too!! I have done a relaxer stretch and this is the start of week 9. I am going to relax with a mild relaxer pretty soon and I am thinking of not perming my nape area . My hair is just touching shoulder length. I know once I relax is will be true - full - shoulder length. I will post my pictures soon.

Thanks Ebony88!

I will definitely keep you posted. I think it went pretty well though. Although I didn't relax my nape it is still not that thick. I think once it gets to growing well, it will be a different story.

My nape awhile ago was BAD because stylists were letting it stay on because my neck would be in the bowl and they wouldn't wash and neutralize it good AT ALL! Happily my nape is back and longer than ever thanks to me going natural; I too plan to do my nape a shorter time when I self-relax. I've also been thinking about maybe relaxing the middle to back of my hair before I relax the top half because the textures are different, I get more breakage from waiting in the back versus the front/top.

Late too.... :look: but I just wanted to co-sign on MsK's experience...
This was my situation for a while as well and I remedied it the same way - by being extra sure that the area from the tops of my ears to the end of my hairline at the back (that's my measurement) is fully neutralized and rinsed well. I ask my stylist for a new towel when the neutralizing process is over and BEFORE I deep condition. I didn't skip relaxer applications (although I agree it's a good idea) but I did do the above, as well as apply extra conditioner that area when I conditioned. In addition, my stylists are always instructed to work from my crown outward ,and to generally do my hairline last - with the nape being the VERY last of all the sections.

Okay.....ya know this is my one of my favorite subjects...the Nape.. :)

Wow KAddy girl your hair is really progressing! Keep it up!!!

Now, how did you protect the nape area when you relaxed your whole head?

Since the nape is considered to be 2 inches from the bottom; I've touched up the top inch and left the bottom inch alone. The last time I self-relaxed, that part of my nape came out so crunchy. I didn't use anything to protect it at all. I've been thinking about slicking it down with vaseline. I was told to use a heavy oil like maybe mineral or vegetable.

I've made an achievement with my nape area. I'll be logging it into my journal!

**btw, what's with all the Deltas on the board?... :scratchch: ;) ;) **

Someone mentioned that they put the neutralizing shampoo on that section, so that is what I did. It worked out great. I also applied the pre-relaxer base stuff that comes with the relaxer kit to the lengths of my hair to help protect against the relaxer in the event that I happen to overlap a little.
