I did some yarn braids/genie locs in my hair. I started on them Thursday night and finished Monday night. It took forever and a day with breaks, but it was worth it. I really love them. I contemplated doing them for a while, and I am glad that I did. They are very soft and pliable which makes styling very easy. They also seem to hold on to moisture very well. I used 100% acrylic yarn in brown that I got from JoAnns fabric store for $5.49 plus tax for a lb of yarn
Here's my regimen while in braids:

ETA: This the yarn I used. It was on sale for $5.49 I believe the regular price is $7.49

You must use 100% acrylic yarn for yarn braids. Please do not use cotton or wool. Cotton is drying and wool will lock your hair
Here's my regimen while in braids:
- Moisturize daily to twice a day. I have been using V05 moisture milks with water in a spray bottle. So far so good; I used this before when wearing half wigs.
- Spray with Chi Keratin Mist twice a week
- Spritz with Ayurveda tea daily to every other day.
- Wash weekly to every 10 days and deep condition over night.
- Redo the edges every 3 weeks to monthly.
- Sleep in a satin cap.
