Yesterday Jan 17 I started my regimen to try to grow my hair longer, thicker and healthier. I’m also working on my edges b/c they are damaged very badly. I now have a lot of breakage in the front and my hair is very dry and brittle. Yesterday I shampooed with Aphogee Deep Moisture Shampoo, than I did the Aphogee Two-Step protein treatment, after rinsing that out I applied Aphogee Balancing Moisturizer conditioner applied a plastic cap and sat under the dryer for 15 minutes. After rinsing that I applied Aphogee pro vitamin leave in conditioner and I let my hair air dry. Once my hair was dry I applied ORS Olive oil moisturizing hair lotion and flat ironed. My hair turned out extremely soft with a lot of body.

Now once a week I plan to shampoo with Aphogee Deep Moisture Shampoo, use the Aphogee Keratin 2 minute reconstruct or, rinse than apply Aphogee Balancing Moisturizer Conditioner, than use ORS Replenishing Pak, once I rinse that apply Aphogee pro vitamin leave in conditioner, air dry, apply ORS Olive oil moisturizing hair lotion and flat iron.

Nightly I plan to apply the ORS hair lotion to my hair and mega-tek to my scalp. I plan to massage my edges with Vitamin E Moisturizer oil, than apply Palmers Gro Treatment w/ vitamin E. Pin hair up with bobby pin and wrap with scarf.

I plan to protect my hair by wearing wigs for the next 6 weeks. I got my last relaxer on December 6, so in six weeks it will be 12 weeks since I’ve had a relaxer. At that point I will decide what my next step will be.

Does this sound like a good plan? I’m not sure if the products work together, but all suggestions are welcome. If there is anything I need to add, change or remove please voice your opinion. Below are pics of how my hair looked before I started, I’ll post more pics in 6 weeks.

I don't know anything about any of the products you described, but I wanted to wish you LOTS OF LUCK!!!! The Ladies are SOOOO helpful and I have no doubt you will reach your goals!

Grow Girl Grow!

since youre using Mega Tek at night, i wouldnt use much additional protein, such as your conditioner and reconstructor. Megatek is protein based. soo you should be careful

I think you have too much protein which WILL lead to breakage. I know that ORS is both strengthening and moisturizing, maybe you can use that every other week or once a month and use a deep conditioner specifically for moisture at least once a week.

Do you have something to protect your hairline while wearing the wig? If not, you may find more stress and rubbing in that area makes the problem worse. I highly recommend skinbio folligen for hairlines, but that's not the most popular product used by most of the ladies here; it is, however, very good and designed specifically for that purpose. I know nothing about megatek, except that I've read it's has protein, and you already have a lot of protein going on.

I recommend you read the stickies; you'll find a wealth of information there about maintaining the mositure/protein balance of your hair which is very, very important to prevent breakage. If you use protein, you need moisture, and you don't always need protein, but you do always need mositure. It is possible to have too much of one or the other, and you will quickly learn what your hair needs.

Since you're 12 weeks post relaxer, make sure you are careful with the line between the two textures - it's fragile and you will get breakage there if you're not very careful - one more reason for mositure. The recommendation for castor oil is a good one, especially on your ends.

ETA _ consider joining the deep conditioning challenge

I cosign about the being careful with the protein overload. other that that I think your regimen sounds good. instead of flat ironing you could do a roller set. The heat damage is what I'm trying to work through as we speak.

I've never done a rollerset before but I am willing to try one. I'll read thru some threads to get tips on how to do one. Thanks for your advice!

I wish you luck on your hair journey. And I would like to add that the length of your hair is thin, do you mine stretching longer? And I agree with trying to do the rollerset instead of the flatiron.

ITA. Lay off the flat Iron and the Aphogee for a bit if you are using Mega tek. That is too much protein. Stretch those relaxers for longer yes roller set and braid outs might help you a lot. Avoid relaxing your edges for a bit and a little MN may help bring them back a little faster then mega tek. If you need help we are all here to help you.

Yes we are and to think about it doing the braid outs maybe give your hair a fuller effect. Join a stretching challenge and try to hold off for 26 weeks, which is 6 months and relax.

Hi Diamnd: We have a different hair experience and I've never worn a wig but for what it's worth...

When I use MegaTek, I apply it at night and baggy. (I use a baggy because I don't like the smell). I co-wash in the morning and seal with castor oil. Every weekend, I deep condition my hair and never use direct heat.

Like the previous poster mentioned, too much protein leads to breakage. Likewise, too much conditioning leads to mushy hair. Since your hair is damaged, start out slow with the protein and see how your hair responds.

Also, have a look at this article. I found it awhile back and it offers some good information on moisture\protein balance. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/278612/the_fine_art_of_protein_and_moisture.html?cat=69

Are you taking any daily vitamins? Are you drinking enough water? Any supplements like MSM or Biotin or garlic?

Thanks for that tip. My hair usually holds a relaxer really good but my edges are a different story. Sometimes I would just put relaxer around my edges to straighten them out. I guess this was probably just damaging them more. I'm learning alot from this websit.

What is MN?

I would lay off flat ironing too, maybe do rodsets or rollersets for a few months, but if you are going to flat iron please add a serum/heat protectant to your hair b4 flatironing. Also, what will you be using as your DC when you don't need to do protein treatments? I would add a moisturizing DC to the wkly dair day.

Stretching for 12wks seems to be good enough for now, if you have never stretched for long periods b4 and are trying to hold onto the length you have while gradually trimming away the thin ends while it thickens up. If you want to stretch longer I would gradually add additional wks with each stretch until you find a stretch that you can maintain both textures without causing any additional damage.

I think the scalp massages and 12 week stretches are a good idea. Also while you wear the wigs, try air drying your hair but tying it down with a silk scarf so it does not get rough. This will also serve as a barrier between your hair and the rough innards of the wig. Can't wait to see your progress!! (Are you taking any vitamins?)

Aphogee....my rel with Aphogee was short-lived. I would say, slow down on the Aphogee line once your hair gains it's health back. Those products are STRONG, even the deep moisturizing shampoo.

The other ladies have already suggested rollersets, which I heart.

ETA: That balancing moisturizer may not be the best DC for moisturizing. I think there are some threads on good moisturizing DCs. The ones I use are good for me. I like Garnier Fructis three minute (but I do 30 minutes with heat) and Silicon Mix which is both protein and moisturizing.

I was planning on going hard with the Aphogee products for six weeks and than lightening up on the protein. Did you have good results with Aphogee? I looked up the Fructis and the Silicon Mix and they both seem to have good reviews. I'll be adding them to my list. Thanks!

Your the second person to mention vitamins so vitamins must be important. The only vitamins that I take are vitamin C and a multivitamin. I plan on purchasing some MSM and Biotin. Approximatly how much should be taken daily?

You have been given great advice by the ladies. We are all hair sisters here. Whatever you need we will help you. The best advice I will give you is : LAY off the relaxer for a while. Trying to straighten them out is what is hurting your edges. There are many ways to make them behave as you take a break from relaxers. You can apply a little moisturizer and a little black castor oil and a silk scarf.

Vitamins and lots of water will help you out.
Biotin is a great idea, but do not overdo it balance the biotin out with other B vitamins. The best combination is GNC's hair skin and nails. It has about 3000 mcg of biotin along with other good hair stuff and no break outs ( yeah a side effect of too much biotin)

Drink a lot of water and eat healthy and exercise.

What state are you in? you may also find it at your local BSS and pay no shipping costs.

I'm in Florida, the only BSS in my area is Sally's. The next closest BSS that most likely does have it is about 20 miles away, so I would rather just pay the shipping than take the drive. As soon as it arrives I'll start applying it to my edges.

Hi, good luck on your hair journey.......like the rest of the ladies said, Megatek is all the protein you need, try another moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and deep conditioner, also a moisturizer, i'm not sure if you listed that, MN is great, but mix it with some oils or a oil, it might bother you if you do it straight out of the tube.......try some natural hair products, I love Hairveda, and I was told Shescentit.com is a good line...NTM is a great line too.....Yes stretch the relaxer.....just keep researching......and if you need more help or any websites just let one of us know.......you gotta crawl before you can walk and I'm just starting to stand up......so believe me I feel you....but you will be there before you know......GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
