She noticed that my hair has grown quite a bit and she asked me if I have Spanish people in my family. I told her, "No". I also explained to her that African-American people can grow long hair also. She's only 9-years old and already is developing misinformed views about African-American hair.

Well Auntie Starz, you now have the responsibility of enlightning and educating this child. /images/graemlins/clap.gif

If she can learn from you now at age 9 she will hopefully not have to go through some of the trial and error, learn the hardway stuff that a lot of us have experienced./images/graemlins/wallbash.gif
Teach her well, she'll thank you for it down the road. And when her hair starts growing beautifully, all of her little classmates will want to know what she's doing. And then she can start educating them and help reprogram the views on AA hair.

Not your "poor little niece," but your fortunate little niece because she she has an aunt who can educate her about her hair. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
