My Lazy Protective Style: Is this really helping?

So for the last couple of days, I've tried my (hopefully) protective style with a small comb. As you can see my hair is short and I don't like bunning because I don't want to add fake hair in or around my hair and without it my "bun" looks kind of sad and tiny. I do have a half wig I wear from time to time...but anyway....

After I moisturize, I pull my hair back like a ponytail and twist it up, fold it down so my ends are not exposed and I use a small comb to hold it in place. I have a side swoop/bang that stays out though. It's just a small plastic one similiar to the attached photo.

I think it is but is this really a protective style?

Thanks!!!!!

Yup...it sure is. If your ends are up off of your shirt/collar, then it is protected. Also, Good Day hair accessories (from what i've seen) have seamless combs so it isnt snagging on your hair.

As long as you aren't forcing the comb down or removing roughly, I'd say that you're just fine. It may be a good idea to switch the positioning of the comb when you place it in your hair every few days. So you are placing tension on the same spot for extended periods of time.

thanks for responding! i really wanted some confirmation because this style is so easy and i don't feel bald with it like with my own "bun!"

I TOTALLY AGREE! I rock this 60 sec. protective style ALL the time. My comb looks like the one below.

thats a cute comb. I need to get one with wider teeth like that one.

and i agree... simply keeping your hair off your shoulders, and off the back of your shirt is considered a protective style. Lately i've been pinning up the back with open bobby pins or good hair day pins. i like buns.. but i'm scared of breakage, so i dont wear them as often as i used to.

Thanks again for responding everyone! I feel so loved! I really like your comb HERicane10! I just bought some cheaps ones on a whim because I didn't like to wear my hair up because of my bun. But I realize I need to wear more protective styles if I want my hair to grow to and past my shoulders. I'll be sure to move it to different spots and try other protective styles. I also bought some banana clips but I can only get them to look/act right every 5th time I put them in. I usually just wear them loosely at home when I want to keep my hair up after moisturizing.
