I got a touch up last Sunday. I was experiencing breakage yesterday(Friday) so I decided to only cowash my hair. Now that my hair is dry, I am certain I feel what I felt before my relaxer--new growth. I feel kinks and waves on scalp. It's like I didn't even get a relaxer. Is this possible? Should I have waited longer to condition my hair? Should I go in for another touch up?

It sounds like your hair was underprocessed...

I would baby my hair and keep it VERY moisturized for at least 4 weeks... then I would get it corrected with a good stylist (or at home if you do your own relaxers)

I know this has been discussed before, but what is underprocessed? Does it mean she didn't leave it on long enough? I have 4a/b hair. How long should the relaxer stay on? She left mine on for maybe 5 minutes because I made such a big deal about not leaving it on too long. Can I go 10 weeks with roots like this or will it cause breakage?

Underprocessed means that it was not applied or smoothed properly OR that it was not left on long enough.

5 minutes seems very short to get fully relaxed hair. If you want relaxed straight hair, you have to leave it on for enough time.

How long have your other relaxers been left on? The average amount of someone to get fully relaxed is between 15 and 20 minutes I'd say. Some people take less time, some people take more.

Your hair should be in good condition if you take care of it well! You can wait 10 weeks or get it corrected sooner... that's your choice!

Just make sure to DEEP CONDITION and MOISTURIZE...

Try doing a search on underprocessed hair for more tips.

Good luck!
