Okay all...I'm brand new to this forum--but I'm no stranger as I have been reading posts in this forum for over a year and have finally decided to join this morning.

I have worn a Wave noveau since I was 14 years old (I'm 25 right now). This was not my choice--but my parent's...and since the Wave Noveau grew out my hair I never changed. I HAD hair past my shoulders but lost it all when I moved from Alaska (yes I'm from Alaska lol) to Louisiana (yes it was a culture shock) and had my hair done at JC Penny where the stylist didn't know what she was doing. Long story short...I lost half of my hair.

I'm now wearing a sew in weave done by a professional and have several 4 inches of new growth. My goal was to try and transition to natural hair--but after dealing with the front half of my hair that has been left out for styling-- (I have 4b hair btw), I have realized that I just cannot do it.

I don't know anything about relaxers--and I don't know if I want to attempt the WN thing again.

I still have some of the WN left in my hair especially --would it be possible to put a mild relaxer--or texturizer (something to just loosen the curl pattern so I can manage it better) on my new growth? If so what products do you all recommend.

Thank you ladies sooo much!

Good Morning and Welcome to the board!!! We have lots of ladies with 4b hair that will chime in soon---Congrats on your progress though. I think instead of going the route of adding a diff chem to your hair you can try a good moisturizer to help with managebility---shea butter works very nicely. :)

thanks Bettina--I've been looking into shea butter!

Hello hon and welcome!!

I would say first find a decent stylist who know how to look after the health of your hair as well as styling, i am natural after years of being told to relax, it has taken me a while becuase i didn't know moisture was so important and a good moisture protein balance too. I chose natural becuase its versatile and i can be straight whenever i want and the chemicals from relaxers i dont like.

In my opinion i would say first get a good cut all round, depending on what damage is there and really ask yourself whether yo want natural or relaxed, both take effort and cosistancy. Neither is easier, but there are soo many great people on this site who are willing to help.

weaves are a great style to protect your hair with, so many women have done it, here is the link to one lady who basically inspired me to get a weave for growth:

but taking care to wash, deep condition, moisturize and apply nourishment to your scalp and not too tight braids is key to good growth and retention as well as dusting here and there.

Hope that helped!?!

Pureebony, thanks for sharing that link! Wow..she has such beautiful hair. Thanks again for the advice! This makes me want to stay natural!

You might lose the rest of your hair if you put a relaxer on top of a curl. They use different types of chemicals that are not at all compatible. :nono:
