I have hope. And my hope is in ION Effective Care Treatment.
I picked this up at Sally's last weekend, and have used it three times since. I am really liking it. I still plan to use Nexxus Emergencee once a month but this is a GREAT mild protein conditioner. I followed it with Pantene R&N for slip and shine. I mention this because it a necessary step with the ION on me as it doesn't give much help with detalngling and leaves the hair pretty stiff as reconstructors are wont to do.....
My hair looks so much better than it did a week ago. I just did a rollerset and it looks fantastic! Not QUITE how it used to, but better just the same.
Why is my hair trashed?
I lightened my hair again, as many of you know, in mid-April but it was too uneven for me. Very patchy looking and the tones didn't blend well....
So I lightened the roots a little more with Bigen Xpressives (stay away from this stuff). I did the roots and then ran it thru the ends for 5 minutes or so. The color came out ok, but as the sn lightened it, it became clear the the roots were TOO light. After attempting to tone it down even more with a few different rinses, I decided I needed something with a little more umph. So when I got to NC about a month ago, I used Clairol Natural Instincts in Amber Shimmer. Not enough coverage of the lighter shades and I was beginning to get desperate. So I decided to do it ONE MORE time with a slightly darker shade (same brand - Dark Bronze Brown). I vowed that if it didn't work, I would dump some Sebastian Neutral Brown on it and start over.....
Well it DID work. The color darkened to a nice deep amber shade and it was basically even but my hair is TWEAKIFIED. As some of you may know my lengths which are no more than two years old withstood several other bouts of coloring over the past few years and it's NOT HAPPY about this latest round!
I considered cutting most of it off completely these past few weeks, but ION may have saved the day....
Based on how the ION conditioner has performed on my hair over the past few days I think I'll be using this to mitigate some of the damage I've unleashed on my poor head and continue babying my hair back to health. I'll be trimming regularly to remove as much of the most damaged hair as possible.
Another this I realized after thinking on it some, and seeing Hiza's pics is that my hair was at it's healthiest when I rollerset after each wash. Airdrying isn't bad for my hair, but when it's in such a precarious condition having it wet all the time has meant more breakage than I'm happy with. So it's back to twice a week rollersets for me.
I've begun a running regimen, so I'm not sure what I'll do about my workouts - I'll probably just bun it if I sweat really terribly, which I usually don't.
The ION gets a 9/10 as far as reconstructors though. It's right up there with Dudley's and Elasta for me.
Let's hope I can chill on the color (rinses not included
) and just take care of my hair for the next six months.
