My hair is fried, but.... (a rather long ramble)

I have hope. And my hope is in ION Effective Care Treatment.

I picked this up at Sally's last weekend, and have used it three times since. I am really liking it. I still plan to use Nexxus Emergencee once a month but this is a GREAT mild protein conditioner. I followed it with Pantene R&N for slip and shine. I mention this because it a necessary step with the ION on me as it doesn't give much help with detalngling and leaves the hair pretty stiff as reconstructors are wont to do.....

My hair looks so much better than it did a week ago. I just did a rollerset and it looks fantastic! Not QUITE how it used to, but better just the same.

Why is my hair trashed?

I lightened my hair again, as many of you know, in mid-April but it was too uneven for me. Very patchy looking and the tones didn't blend well....

So I lightened the roots a little more with Bigen Xpressives (stay away from this stuff). I did the roots and then ran it thru the ends for 5 minutes or so. The color came out ok, but as the sn lightened it, it became clear the the roots were TOO light. After attempting to tone it down even more with a few different rinses, I decided I needed something with a little more umph. So when I got to NC about a month ago, I used Clairol Natural Instincts in Amber Shimmer. Not enough coverage of the lighter shades and I was beginning to get desperate. So I decided to do it ONE MORE time with a slightly darker shade (same brand - Dark Bronze Brown). I vowed that if it didn't work, I would dump some Sebastian Neutral Brown on it and start over.....

Well it DID work. The color darkened to a nice deep amber shade and it was basically even but my hair is TWEAKIFIED. As some of you may know my lengths which are no more than two years old withstood several other bouts of coloring over the past few years and it's NOT HAPPY about this latest round!

I considered cutting most of it off completely these past few weeks, but ION may have saved the day....

Based on how the ION conditioner has performed on my hair over the past few days I think I'll be using this to mitigate some of the damage I've unleashed on my poor head and continue babying my hair back to health. I'll be trimming regularly to remove as much of the most damaged hair as possible.

Another this I realized after thinking on it some, and seeing Hiza's pics is that my hair was at it's healthiest when I rollerset after each wash. Airdrying isn't bad for my hair, but when it's in such a precarious condition having it wet all the time has meant more breakage than I'm happy with. So it's back to twice a week rollersets for me.

I've begun a running regimen, so I'm not sure what I'll do about my workouts - I'll probably just bun it if I sweat really terribly, which I usually don't.

The ION gets a 9/10 as far as reconstructors though. It's right up there with Dudley's and Elasta for me.

Let's hope I can chill on the color (rinses not included

) and just take care of my hair for the next six months.

Good luck on your hair journey, and I'm sure your hair will recover completely. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the color...

Thanks Candi..I did it to myself, I always do...
laugh.gif
But the beauty is in the successes....the upside is the color is pretty good now and I am on my way back to better hair.

Tracy! I must tell you that you are one of the main people that have brought me to this board in the first place. I would just drool over your photos and your color! I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!!

I know that with all of your tendril wisdom you will get it back in shape, however, when you say TWEAKIFIED do you mean that it feels like straw? Does it look drier than normal? How much do you plan to chop off?

LOL @ tendril wisdom! :rofrofl:

Thanks for the kind words. Tweakified is just a Tracy-ism.

Translation - jacked up!

Feels like straw, gummy when wet, having trouble curling naturally and holding a curl. Generally unurly and unmanageable overall....and it does look drier and has less shine than normal.

I plan to cut off all of this color eventually (I won't retouch the color as it grows out - the tone is deep enough that I won't need to, it's like a light brown with a bit of red - a deep amber is the best description) by gradually, but regularly, trimming the hair as I relax. Hopefully it will be gone in a year or so and I can start over with T&T Bronze - the best color ever!!!!

Thanks for the review Tracy!!! You are the absolute color guru, so I know your tresses are beautifully toned!

Tracy, giiiiiirrrrrll when I started reading this I was like wow she is sure doing a whole lot of coloring. I've always wanted my hair a lighter shade of brown but I'm too too afraid of dyes!

Oh and if you look closely you can see the splits along the shaft....something I alsmot never have. But I'll work on it. I also gave myself a trim last week so it's a little shorter than it normally is. My ends are NEARLY as bad as they were though.....

Thanks Sengchick! You're one of my hair twins, so if you hear of any new products that help, holla at cha girl!

Tracy your color is sooooooo pretty
smile.gif
, Im sure it looks very natural and pretty in person as well. You really are good with coloring!

Thanks candi!

Britt....my hair paid the price..but it's WAY more even than it was at the April meet....

I'm gonna leave it alone for a while now. It looks normal but for needing a little babying so I'm not going to push teh envelope any further.

If I had all that THICK, GORGEOUS, JET BLACK HAIR of yours, I wouldn't have to go through this!

BTW Britt - do you wet bun or aridry ever? I always meant to ask you that..

Britt has some bomb *** hair y'all!
smile.gif

You're brave to put your hair through all of that! I wanted to lighten my hair a few months ago, but I chickened out and got a refund on the dye.

Brave....dumb....guru...idiot....

You choose.
laugh.gif

I'm sorry now, I'll tell you that. But I'm hoping for yet another hair miracle....

Tracy,
You hair doesnt look dry and frizzy AT ALL, its so pretty!!!
You are a true soldier, for real girl ..
I am too much of a PUNK to color at home
laugh.gif
, I am going for my re-touch in two weeks.

The pics give me more shine than I have Denali....trust me.
You're the smart one!
smile.gif

If I find a good stylist here I'll probably have it professionally done when I begin again. Getting the color even is the greatest challenge in home coloring. You have to be diligent and meticulous applying the color - and even then it's still a toss up.

Do try it Singingstar. Its a great product.

Bim - they are indeed mostly on my top layers
frown.gif
. In person you can really see them. My SO (who has taken to calling me Rainbow Bright
tongue.gif
) mentioned them. He said my hair looked "tired". When I asked why he said that he said "you have all those little wispies on the outside."

What can I say? The man knows hair....

DAMN T
shocked.gif

That color looks so vibrant on u.
smile.gif
I love it. And damn, I (WE) don't call u the color guru for nothing
laugh.gif
You are truly a daredevil.

Aww Tracy thanks for the compliment
smile.gif
, I am grinning from ear to ear
grin.gif
. U know I thought my hair looked rather crappy that day b/c I was
ill.gif
and couldn't really do it the way I like
ohwell.gif
.

I have put a halt to air drying completley b/c I have caught numerous colds from doing so and I have narrowed the colds down to the air drying. Lately I have been washing and rollersetting myself
smile.gif
. I don't wear my hair down often at all b/c its hot and annoying and it looses its body after 3 days. Since its summertime, I pin it up everyday and go on my merry way
cool.gif

If I am going to wash more often I take a blowdryer to the roots to get out all the wetness to combat catching a cold, plus I don't really like walking around with a soaking wet head.

That color is very pretty! I can understand why you take the chance to get it that way. Your hair still looks really good.

My hair twins give me such hope b/c you all have such beautiful hair. I will certainly let you know if I fall upon a miracle product.

Of course your new color is fierce and I know I may be in the minority, but I like your hair dark too!
smile.gif
If I could have 5 highlights that looked like your current color I would be so content!! Too bad I'm a whimp.

Your hair is gorgeous, Tracy. I'm with Sengschick. I like your hair light and dark.
