My Hair Is Always Dry Straw Like And Crunchy Help

No matter what I use it still always end up this way. I have tried Loc method and Lco method it doesn't work. Maybe I am not using enough? I have used all kinds of oils and leave in conditioners. My hair will stay moisturized for like an hour. I have 4c natural low to normal porosity hair. I have a lot of hairs but its kinda on the fine side. Also whenever I touch it I get not only shed hairs but tons of broken hairs as well. I am contemplating on cutting all my hair off and just wearing a wig or going the relaxed route. HELP!

5. Do you drink and or smoke?
6. What oils do you use?
7.when was your last trim?

I had the same problem until I fixed my care regimen. I've added steaming, conditioning with baking soda, and betonite clay to my usual deep conditioning and tea tree shampoos. These minor (but messy and sometimes time consuming) changes have made all the difference.

I'm still searching for that #1 leave in conditioner but in the mean time, I use generous amounts of Paul Mitchell, The Conditioner followed by castor oil. Then finally I apply Beautiful Textures Leave In. This combination seems to keep me moisturized and soft.
 
With low porosity hair, the struggle is sometimes getting moisture into the strand rather than just on the surface. Try using warm water for your whole wash process, rather than a cold water rinse. That should help keep the cuticles open.

Do you deep condition? If so how?

Are you using products that are geared towards low/normal porosity hair?
 
My hair reacted the same way when it had protein overload. I'd say check your products for hidden protein and if that's not the case clarify and start over with mostly moisturizing products until your hair bounces back.

Don't cut though because if you don't fig out what's causing the problem to begin with cutting won't help.
 
Also, how frequent do u moisture? I have to do it almost daily with low manipulative. I do some cornrows then spray it with my moisture one or twice a day. Greenhouse method works wonder. Shedding is reduced

Yes, I have hardwater. that may be the culprit.
I shampoo with Suave deep moisture shampoo and deep condition with Aussie 3 minute moist.
I don't use gel.
I drink at least 2 liters of water daily
I am washing now every 2 weeks
I have used castor oil, aloe oil, olive oil, hot 6 oils, taliiah wajiid healing oyl
I usually just trim whenever I see ssks or split ends but my last real trim was about 2 months ago
My leave in is Camille Rose revitalizing hair smoother
When I wash I usually let my hair air dry I haven't used a blow dryer in a year
I am 2 years and 2 months natural.

Try buying a shower filter first and get chelating shampoo.
Check your oils, they may be making your hair hard and crunchy. aloe may not be your friend. TW products have that in her ingredients. Hot Sixx may not be your friend either.
Other than that, I wouldn't change anything else. Moisture and hydration starts with shampoo and consitioning. I'm not gonna tell you to leave the Suave and Aussie alone. I would personally toss that out, and go with a salon quality shampoo and conditioner. But changing that filter, chelating, and getting rid of some of those oils will help.
You can always look into a refresher spray to use throughout the day. Something like rose water, or something store bought.

Before I forget I wanted to add:

Try getting a shower filter. I got one from Home Depot for like $20 or something. Not that that's the full solution, but if I had known how simple and cheap it is to just bypass the hard water variable, I would have done so long ago.

I spent years with super dry hair that would not respond to much of anything, btw, so I totally get where you're coming from.

What seems to have worked for me:
1. Get a clean slate. I.e. chelate. This removes any and everything that could be blocking hydration/moisture.
2. Do a protein treatment to fill in the holes in the hair so that water/moisture could be held within the hair when it was introduced into my hair. (I was not lowpo, so a protein treatment posed no threat to me since I'd never had one before).
3. Hydrate the hair with aloe Vera juice (I'm not lowpo, so there was no issue there with me). AVJ holds a LARGE amount of water per molecular weight.
4. Seal in the AVJ with heavy butter/oil.
5. Deep condition very regularly (every wash until things got right).

There's a lady who documented the effect that constant deep conditioning had on her hair over time. It was like a whole new head of hair! I was convinced.

Your mileage may vary. None of the above may do anything for you. I just wanted to share what helped me just in case it might help you.

I agree with this video. My hair would not take in anything it seemed so once I rinsed it out I was washing the conditioner down the drain. I started doing pre poos under the dryer and deep conditioning under the dryer and it made a difference. That moisture needs to be forced in lol.

Wash n go's look a lot better now and my hair doesn't seem to dry as fast while styling. My expectation is that it will continue to get better every week. My crown and front areas are drier than the rest of my hair.

I hope you have time lol. I'll make it short though.

My current dilemma is unhealthiness. For awhile, I forgot about the steps and techniques it took for my hair to be healthy and floushing. I completely forgot about clarifying/chelating. I read a post yesterday about a lady having dry, dull, lifeless hair and someone made the clarifying suggestion and that's when it clicked. The lady doing my weaves wasn' helping my hair AT ALL so I made the decision to cancel her yesterday. She has a license, but needs to learn a lot more. She never made the clarifying suggestion and you would think she'd know that.

Blue Magic hair grease.

Eta: make sure you moisturize first and seal with a little bit of BlueMagic if you want to try it. It makes my hair super soft.
