Okay Ladies, I need your help!

Calling all who have permanent hair color, highlights etc.

Please take a look at my album and notice the length and condition of my hair from September of 2004 and now. You will notice that my hair has grown but it looks like crap! My doobie looks like a dontie (made up word) because you can see right through it. My hair sheds all the times and is very dry and brittle. I have highlights and permanent color that was done back in the summer. I was doing Nexxus Emergencee and laying off the heat and keeping my hair moisturized. Everything was fine for a while but now my hair is turning on me. I am thinking about cutting all the color off to where by black roots are and starting fresh. That will be so drastic for me to loose all this hair. Do you think I should just get a good cut to even the dead ends out and then start with a diligent hair care regime or should I go for the big chop. Tracy, if you’re out there please help. Should I try to do the Surge challenge, I am not sure how Surge will work with colored, relaxed hair.

It really didn't look bad to me at all, but I guess that you know your hair better than I don. What type of daily moisturizer are you using? Perhaps you need something that is a bit more moisturizing???

I think you should save the drastic cut as a last resort and do mini trims. Do you use heat regularly? If so I would begin by cutting that out. I do hot oil treatments and deep condition once a week to combat dryness. Maybe you could start there.

Just a suggestion. Hope this helps.

Hey Evanne,

I think your hair looks lovely! I know how it gets at times when it just seems like it's not as thriving as you are used to it being. Anywho, you better not cut your hair!!!! It is that time of the year where your hair will shed and have a little breakage from the cold. You first need to relax and don't worry about your hair. Then, I would just see about getting a slight trim. After that, you should just continue with the regimen you have but just make sure that you are not using too much protein. Make sure you are using a moisturizing conditioner after your protein treatments (Keracare Humecto, Neutrogena's Triple Moisture, etc.) This could be the problem. I would suggest using the moisturizing conditioner along with some type of moisturizing hair oil. Be sure to heat the oil in some hot water (3 min) before applying to your hair with the moisturizing conditioner. I'll check back on you later. Dr. appointment to go to.

Good luck!

I agree with kitty, your hair looks nice to me. It doesn't look thin at the bottom to me. I wouldn't go to any extreme measures. Are you having breakage issues?

Okay... PUT DOWN THE SCISSORS!!! :nono: I'm almost positive that you can nurse your tresses back to health with a little TLC and maybe a mini trim (not chop). Some things to consider would be: condition washes and protective styles while keeping your ends moisturized. If you want to see a drastic improvement on your ends try the baggie method. It's helped my ends out tremendously! :) IMO, your hair looks good, but then again your hair isn't on my head so I can't exactly get a close up of what you are talking about. I hope everything works out for you.

I think your hair is fine also! You are being way to hard on yourself.

If YOU really can’t stand it, and you REALLY want to cut….just take an ½” or an 1” off and see if it looks better. (Like I said I think it looks fine) If you don’t think that’s enough keep trimming an ½” or 1” inch every touch up until your satisfied. That is my plan of action for my hair.

my only suggestion is pay attention to what styles u have been wearing lately and the products u have been using...and what methods for each product....hope u find the cause and fix the problem :)

I guess I know how my hair has looked in the past and right now it is at it's worse. As for the daily, when i remember I have started putting a little mango butter on my hair. I have also been oiling my scalp with castor oil. Not sure if this is a good thing or not. The mango butter I only use when I wear ponytails or half weaves. I hate the heavy greasy look. I will at least spay with some motions oils sheen when I want the bouncy flowing look.

I only use my ceramic iron once in a blue. I do go the the dominicans and i get a rollerset but i let them blow dry my roots. I talk myself into thinking that this isn't as bad as getting all the hair blow dried but I think this is starting to take it's toll too. My hair is growing so fast that the new growth comes in after the second week of my touch up. I hate thick roots with a farely new touch up. Maybe I should only let them do the rollerset but what will help the roots?

I too don't think that your hair looks bad. I think it is merely lacking moisture. I know from experience that color and highlights need TONS of moisture. Another thing is that the weather is changing so it is getting colder and your hair is definitely feeling it, so moisture up more than you normally would.

Castor oil on the scalp is good. Put like a dime sized amount in your hand, rub together and apply to the hair, especially the ends. This helps a great deal and is not heavy like you think it will be since it is a very little amount

I have been taking the Emergencee with me to the salon and they just use the pink rinse afterwards. I think I will start bringing the Humectress with my. I switched to the Keraphix for a while to see if I get better results. I know that Emergencee is top of the line but the stuff cost so much. I will start heating the oil before the treatments for now on too. My hair sheds all the time since the color, even before that I think. My bathroom floor is a mess everyday. I have tried the garlic shampoo but it doesn't work.

Thank you! It just doesn't look the way it use to you. I knew this would happen because I have been through this more than once and I never learn my lesson. In the past, I always bounced back but I think this time age and my body changes have made it harder (once I hit 30 two years ago it all went down hill). I see plenty of breakage and split ends and it's very dry.

I do need to cut some of it off that is for sure. The only reason I figure I should do a big chops is to get rid of the colorerd hair. I am hating the way it looks right now because of my black roots. I think your right about nursing it back to health with some tlc.

Well, when you busy behind finally meets up with me (for your stuff, just kidding girl) you will see it and I want you to give your honest opinion okay. I also want you to take me to the BSS store you got you half weave from. Beauty Town doesn't have anything new right now. I think I need to wear some wigs and weaves for a while and nurse my hair a little.

Thanks for your advice, I get a wash and set every week and wear my hair out for a few days and then I start doing buns until the next wash. I alwasy wrap it at night as well. I have even been playing with the half weaves and oiling and moisturizing the hair underneath. I have been using Nexxus products since last summer. Maybe it is time to switch. I was thinking about trying the Neutragena Triple Moisture line. I wonder is their stuff is any good.

Girl, I think I have been over doing the castor oil. I part my hair and I have been greasing my entire scalp every other day with it. It's the pure Jamaican black one too. It smells really bad and my SO is not happy at night. I try to mask it with the Mango butter (which he loves the smell of) but it only helps a little and then my hair is super greasy and heavy. I am in NY and the weather is getting really cold here, today the high may get to 20.

OK, I don't have that strong jamaican castor oil, but the other ladies do talk of the smell. Maybe you should just use that for a pre-shampoo treatment and use another oil for your scalp and ends. Jojoba is a good oil for the scalp as it absorbs and somewhat models the sebum on the scalp.

I am also a colored girl :hula: What has helped me retain length and thickness is frequent protein treatments. I know alot of people speak against but color makes your hair VERY weak and it needs constant protein to keep it strong!! I give myself a protein treatment every 3 days   Now emergencee is good, but that is a polymeric conditioner it basically seals the cuticle... I would suggest you alternate between Emergencee and a keratin protein (keraphix, ion, etc) to fill in those porous gaps along the cuticle :) I always always follow my protein treatment up with a moisturizing conditoner (humtress, elucence, kenra) and then a nice leave-in (which is important since your are styling your hair with heat).... It is also important to wash the protein conditioner out COMPLETELY because any protein residue can lead to breakage or cause dryness.. I also give my hair an intense moisturizing treatment every 4 wks with Salerm Wheat Germ Mask.. Oh yeah, I moisturize my hair every single day with some type of creme moisturizer :fat: , and it remains oh la la silky until my next wash day
Also if you hair seems thin a good trim will definately give you some added thickness  PLEASE DON'T CHOP.. Your hair looks just fine to me ;) . I have heard that frequent blowouts can cause thinning due to the tugging of the round brush  I limit my salon visits to once a month and wear buns or rollerset myself in between that time

This is what I did as well when my hair was colored... My hair is dyed black now (covers grays :()... but I used to have it all kinds of colors! LOL
CO washes would be good as well ... do some braid outs or scrunch it... ..I really think you just need a trim and moisture.....
