How do I get my hair to look good in a wrap style? I have tried doobies and flatironing. My ends are healthy but even with much practice I do not get the look that I want. My strands are so soft, which I thought was a good thing but there is no hold to my curls at all. They are gone after a few strokes with the comb. This even happened when I went to a Dominican salon. I was one of the few that still needed a hot curler after my hair was dry.

Is it because my hair is short? (6-8 inches)?

It could be a lot of things

1. the size of rollers used- Big roller = less curl
2. the setting lotion/leave-in conditioner that you use- Some can leave your hair feeling limp. Try moisturizing pretreatments (any good deep conditioner) prior to shampooing then liquid setting lotion if you're not already. Also sometimes you don't even need to comb your hair after taking out rollers... just let it fall and let the humidity do its work.
3. It might apply to you, but my hair wasn't holding its curl very well until I got a good trim to give it shape.
4.Styling at night- You can try DatJerseyDyme's way of nighttime styling. It looks like a mohawk. Search for that on this forum. Or you can use the ponytail method like I do. You can put your hair in one or several loose ponytails and put rollers on the ends of the hair before going to bed.

HTH.

I will try all three in this order: smaller rollers (the ones I used were the size of the orange and black magnetic rollers), liguid setting lotion (currently using creamy ones), light dusting. My curls are seriously GONE when I comb my hair to wrap it. All that time under the dryer for nothing. I will try again on Thursday. Thanks for the advice. I am hopeful for better results.

What size rollers is everyone using (6-8 inches of hair)?

Chellee, when's the last time you had a clarifying treatment. You may have a lot of product build up in your hair. This happens to me from time to time and it leaves my wrap lifeless. Once I clarify, then add my product and roll, I get a much better set. I cosign with anky, I use the black and red rollers which is 1 1/2 inches and my hair is in between my back bone so smaller rollers will definitely help. Just go maybe one size down. Don't go too small though.

The red rollers are smaller than the orange and black ones and if your hair is twice my length then I am definitely doing something wrong. I will use the green and pink ones and see if that helps. Can you recommend a good clarifying shampoo?

That's why I like to use the red 1 1/2 inch rollers because I can get a lot of body with these. Once I'm finished setting, I comb through the curls with a wide tooth comb, then wrap overnight. In the morning I have a straight wrap with a bump at the ends and tons of body and movement. As far as a clarifying shampoo, I use Suave. But do a search to find one that is less drying. I may switch to ACV rinses instead of the shampoo because Suave can be a little drying at times.
