dang, i'm sorry to hear about this mishap, B!

i tend to agree with caress on this. it could be the relaxer coupled with the recent use of Surge. was this your first retouch after trying the Surge? ioanknow...

i'm sure it will be okay since the shedding is lessening...

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

B - were you by any chance menstruating? Taking any new meds?

Sounds like a the relaxer and some other chemical conflicted....

I think your instincts are dead on about the protein - but I would love to get to the bottom of this....

The salon experience sounds crazy - but it doesn't sound like anything grossly out the oridnary happened in terms of your chemical service.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

The only medication I had was some sinus stuff for four days at the beginning of the month.

But it's almost my cycle time. Maybe that's it.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

I'm so sorry to hear of your hair disaster. It sounds like you've got a good plan to get it back on track though.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

The reason I ask about the cycle is that about a week before and then on through it, I can't even THINK about getting a relaxer. My scalp is on FIRE. Something about the hormones makes my skin really sensitive.

Also - this wouldn't explain your scalp - but the shedduing and breaking may also have been partially due to your recent color issue. Have you relaxed since you used the Feria at all? Most of the time, when you color you should use a mild relaxer and I noticed you used a regular....I'm thinking this might have contributed to the breakage. If it did the protein will correct that pretty well. And generally hair treated with Feria doesn't really begin it's real tweakage until you relax it...

The protein will definitely help.

Yes, I used the Feria in the first week of September and then got a relaxer at the end of October (23rd).

yeah your skin does get extremely sensitive around that time. I experienced the burning around my period as well. Derms also recommend not shaving during your period cuz it gets really tender around that time. So maybe that applies to the scalp too. Im soory about what happened B. Are you gonna stay away from relaxers for good now?

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

Yup the having thing happens to me too.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

I'm sorry that happened to you. Have you thought about going back to the salon and requesting a refund?

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

Bo, I'm soooooo sorry this happened. This can be so frustrating after all this hard work. Hang in there. The good thing is that you know how to remedy the situation.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

I just rinsed out the deep conditioner that I had on my hair since 2:30 this afternoon. It was LeKair's, so I'm used to leaving it on all day with good results. I then put CDHHB on the way I did in my review of it.

Still a lot of hair shedding, but I'm hoping it will die down soon. I may go ask for a refund, but I don't know if they will give one to me.

I won't be relaxing again because I'm moving my deadline to go natural closer.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

Hey Boadicea,,, I, too, am sorry to hear about this. Please step it up on the Aubrey Organics prods now more than ever. The ingredients will definitely help to heal your scalp and strengthen your hair. You may also want to add a little of AO aloe vera gel to an AO conditioner for that extra punch...Aloe is excellent for healing and repairing skin tissue and even helps with hair growth.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

I hate to hear that. that is why I am removing my hair away from these bad stylist. I know your hair will come back, because u know what to do. I just hate that u have to go thru this.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

I just noticed that I have peeling, flaky skin around my hairline at the temples. It's like whatever the heck is going on just won't quit.

At the most, all they're going to give me is a free wash and blow-dry or something. I don't want to go to another stylist again so I don't think I'll even bother complaining.

My hair is feeling softer now. I bought a Scunci French Twist clip (added the picture to my journal). I used CDHHB again and a little less hair is coming out. The CDHHB makes it hard to comb through, though so maybe that's why.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

I wish! Will you put up more photos of your hair?

The shedding is lessening and it's also only long hair now, so I think that's a good sign. Hopefully it's just shedding, now and no more breakage.

But I desperately need another trim again.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

I'll probably post some up by the end of feb. of beginning of march. after my relaxer.

Boadicea ~
I'm sorry to read about this! I agree with the others, that you're on the right track with protein. I thought I would share a tip I got from the inimitable Mahalialee - she was the first one to reach out to me when I started my hair care journey as a scared little bunny with severely breaking, shedding hair. My hair had gone, in a period of 5 months, from thick and healthy (virgin) to see-through and so thin barrettes would fall out of my (relaxed)hair! Due to her advice, my hair did a complete turnaround. Maybe you can add this one to your arsenal of hair care techniques:

Use pure Extra virgin olive oil for your hot oil treatments. Really strengthens hair. To each oil treatment, add 1/2 tsp. Vitamin C Crystals. Make sure it is the crystals ! Excellent for stopping breakage.(Health Food Store). Try this for a month.

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

I still have some EVOO sitting on my shelf. I'm going to get around to using it. Thank you for the suggestion.

I used the Avalon Organics shampoo (left on my hair for about two-three minutes) and that stopped the shedding, but it gave me dandruff because it's kind of drying. So now that's my only problem. Hopefully it will go away soon, too.

I too am glad to see your shedding has stopped. Good luck, Boadicea!

Re: My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!

Thanks again, ladies. I used the AO WCJ shampoo today. I forgot how hard it makes my hair feel because of the liquid protein in it. I'm hoping to see some great results soon.

I'm probably going to just stick with the AO products for a couple of months. Instead of using my Salerm, I used S-curl. The Salerm also has protein in it and I didn't want to cause any overkill.
