My haiiiiir!! I\'m about to have a breakdown y\'all!
Ladies, I've been battling with going natural for about 3-4 years. Recently, I decided to stay relaxed for another year until my wedding and then I was going to transition and do a big chop when my natural hair was at least shoulder length.
On the 22nd of January, 2004, I went in and got a touch-up. Designer's Touch Lye, left on for 2 minutes (tops for me is three minutes). I have been doing this since 1996 (same stylist and everything) with no problems AT ALL. My hair was thick, healthy, shiny, bouncy, you name it.
This time, the relaxer started burning about a minute in. There was a new shampoo-girl that gave me a bad vibe right away. She was busy chit-chatting, and running around and when my stylist asked her to rinse out my relaxer because she had someone else to "bump-out", she refused and said she didn't want to get it on her hands.
My stylist left the relaxer in another minute and then rinsed it out. My head was a complete inferno. No matter how many times the stylist rinsed it out, it felt like my scalp was melting. They did the normal rinse out procedure and I was sent to sit under the dryer with a reconstructor.
My hair doesn't feel like my own. It feels like tulle. And not only does it feel like tulle, it's FALLING OUT. Long strands, medium strands, short strands.
I detangled my hair in my usual, careful manner, and I have never, ever, EVER shed more than 10-15 strands a day. My hair hasn't broken off since 1997 when I was hot combing, flat ironing, blow drying and hot curling all in ONE sitting. This was obviously before I learned how to take care of my hair.
I'm going to wear my usual protective styles and then do a big chop as soon as the mood strikes (maybe at the end of the year), even if it stops breaking off and shedding.
I'm going to put aside my Smooth Down and start up on Aubrey Organics again. I just bought the J.A.Y. shampoo, the White Camellia and Jasmine shampoo, and the GPB deep conditioner.
