My ends are rebelling against me

Natural Again
This is a rant. If you have advice, please feel free to give it. Every night when I put Profectiv Healthy Ends or whatever else I use, on the length of my ponytail (which is short) I get ALOT of hairs in my hand. It's getting discouraging. Forget bra-strap, grazing my shoulders doesn't even seem feasible @ this point! /images/graemlins/cry3.gif Thanks for listening

Thx Carlie for respondin, I am not sure if it is breaking or shedding. I used Aphoghee (sp?) on September 12th. Do I need more protein? The strands are kind of long and a few of them had the white bulbs on the end.

If your strands have the white bulbs on the end, that's how you identify hair that has been shed. After an Aphogee treatment, the hair is usually hard and the ph balance needs to be restored. What moisturizing conditioners did you follow up your Aphogee treatment with? Also, the week following my Aphogee treatment, I O.D. my hair w. moisture. What your hair needs right now is LOTS of moisture and not protein. Too much protein can also cause your hair to break. Everything has to be balanced. Profectiv Healthy Ends is great for the ends but it's ingredients include protein...after using the Aphogee treatment, I think you should use a moisturizer that doesn't contain protein.

I discovered that using a very thick creamy moisturizer on my hair every night was causing some breakage. It must have been too much manipulation. It seems like the thickness of a product like healthy ends was sort of pulling some of my hair out. Now I alternate using a creamy moisturizer and a moisturizing spray. I also only moisturize every few days instead of every day and have noticed that less hair is coming out.

I totally agree with this. What I like to do to solve this problem is to mix my thick lotion moisturizers w. a generous amount of oil in the palm of my hand before rubbing into my hair. It's so much easier to apply and gives lovely results. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ditto Carlie. I've been doing this also with NTM silk touch leave in or Nexxus headress mixed with coconut oil.

Carlie, you are so right. I rarely use creamy/lotion moisturizers because many of them contain protein. My hair cannot take too much protein. Mixing oil with the creamy moisturizers sounds like a great idea.

NY--- /images/graemlins/wave.gifI noticed the same thing when i tried using profectiv for about a week... it was very disturbing, so i began using castor oil and doing the baggie method. now i have much less shedding....do not fret or lose hope....you just need to find what works for your tresses.

Have you tried the scurl/vaseline method? My ends break less and are smoother since I started doing this. I also noticed that profectv dry ends creme would cause my ends to break when I applied it. Go figure..wonder why that is?! Hmmm!

Hey Faith, please tell us about this method....

Hey Sherry,

It's the same method that most of the women do. Since my hair is in a bun. What I do is apply the scurl to the last 3 inches and then I apply vaseline over that. My ends have been GREAT. No splits and no breakage any more. My ends have been sleeker and very smooth.

You ladies have given a lot of good tips. /images/graemlins/up.gif

Don't be discouraged NYCQT16. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Though it may be frustrating at times, once you find what works for your hair/what your hair likes, I promise this journey will be a whole lot easier. Hang in there! /images/graemlins/Rose.gif

Thank you ladies so much for all the tips /images/graemlins/smile.gif I did not follow up with a good moisturizer so I see one problem. I also need to check my labels for protein as well. I didn't even think of that. I did the baggie method with oil & with vaseline & with profectiv breakfree (3 separate times), and the result for me was okay. I will check my labels and try not to use so much heavy moisturizer on my hair. I think the thing is that this is usually THE length, like it rarely gets longer than this and if it did in the past it looked all scraggly n chopped and definitely didn't really touch my shoulders. I guess I am feeling like noooo..don't let it stop here so I am getting anxious & easily frustrated.

I had the same problem with profectiv, so I dumped it. Now I use mango butter mixed with a very little bit of Salerm 21 while my hair is damped and freshly washed. During the week I alternate with oil and the mango butter.

Good luck, I hope that you find a solution.

Now that you ladies have said something about it, I noticed that with my P-Healthy Ends too.. it always seemed like hair came out when I put it on.. but that never happens with my ORS Carrot Oil.. so I dont even use it anymore.. and stick to the ORS.

I have found that I can only use Healthy Ends alone when my hair is either wet or dirty and already oily. Otherwise, I'm bound to pull it out. I mix it with jojoba oil and then there aren't any problems, but really, I use Break-free and the ORS Carrot Oil on my dry hair 90% of the time.

I was unable to use products such as Break Free and Healthy Ends. They are water-based products, to which my hair does not respond.

In fact, I stopped using setting lotion when rolling up my hair at night, for this very reason.

Water based products dry out my hair.

Perhaps this is happening with your hair as well?

BTW: My hair also does not respond to oils of any kind, or products loaded with oils.
