My company Vp and "Good Hair"

Ok so I've got a good relationship with the head of my department (3 levels above me) and he just told me that our Vice President (she's black) took him and her other direct reports (all white but 1, mostly men) to see Good Hair earlier this week! Then afterwards that went to dinner and talked diversity. I am totally out done. He's like "I never knew there was so much to know about weave!" Our VP is a real down to earth, very approachable, in her early 50's I'd guess. I can only imagine what they talked about at dinner.

Just thought I'd share.

What she do that for? SMH. And ya'll wonder why white folks ask us about our hair all the time? It's because your bosses are out taking them to see 'Good Hair'! They're asking because they didn't understand the movie!

When he told me I was like "Lord... the girls on LHCF aren't gonna like this. We just had a womens conference and I get what she was trying to do, but she's confused the heck out of these white men.

At first I was like "Oh, that was nice. A little education for the co-workers." But then I caught on that these were white men.

I'm not fully understanding why she would do this.

What does watching "good Hair" have to do with diversity? If she wanted to talk about race relations, she should have showed them the movie Crash!

Naw, and I doubt that he will ask me about it. My boring protective styles are not even on his radar.

Other races are curious about our hair. They have so little styling options (was told that by a co worker) and they are wondering what it is like to be able to do so much to their hair. Sad thing is that this movie seems to have a negative "aspect". It does not appeal to me because now I am sick of hearing about it. @ the cultural diversity comment. I guess they really don't know any better.

Smh....here we go some white folks that will now be even more misinformed.....I see many white folks with missing teeth and black eyes between the time that this movie has come out and its release on DVD......lol

I think I get what the VP was trying to do. I think that it can help with the atmosphere and how AA women are perceived and viewed in the workplace. Other people are curious about our hair. Its almost always the first thing that people notice when we walk into a room. It tells a lot about the person (as y'all know).

Heck its the first thing I notice when I see people coming into the nail shop. You can hide your hands, but your hair is OUT THERE!

That just gave me the worst feeling. Kinda like when you see a well laid plan backfire.
