Hey TalkTru, I got a kick (and a few giggles) out of watching your curl formers tutorial. I think the outcome was great and not bad for a first attempt . I had the same experience when I first started but like you I persevered and each attempt got better as I went along. 1st try took 2.5 hrs, now I can get them done in under an hour (approx 45 mins). So the tricks that helped...I noticed that you turn the hook part downwards facing, I turn the hook facing up towards the ceiling, I find this helps to keep the hair from falling off . Next tip, I have 3 wands and I load up the curlformers three at a time, install the three, then load up again. I plan to get another wand so it will be that much faster. You've already figured out that smaller sections work best but I use the wider and tall curlformers and have found that you can fit more hair and that alleviates any snag problems. I also found that I get better curls that last longer when I use less product, no holding gel etc. I apply my leave in, detangle add a tad bit of Cocasta oil on the ends and viola bouncy curls. As for drying time,I like to go under a bonnet dryer for 45 mins then air dry 3 - 4 hrs, remove, then pin curls it up, bonnet and night night. Great results every time. Curlformers are a natural girls best friend, shiny, bouncy, stretched hair and wonderful for keeping ssks and fairy knots away. Keep at it and you'll be a pro in no time as its a very short learning curve. Txs again for the video it was fun.

hair4today Girl, thank you for the tips! And thank you for watching.
You know, I was actually thinking of using a holding gel next time, so thanks for mentioning less products.
DUH!!! I didn't think to load the 2nd hook:ohwell: When my next bunch arrives, I'll have 4 hooks in total, will make sure I load all at the same time. Ohhhh, ok, I can visualize turning the hook facing upwards:yep:

I bought some and although I used them on DD, I'm scared to try to do my own hair. I'll watch your YT vid when I go home tonight. Thanks for the tips ladies.

Wow gorgeous head of har! :yep:.

Now I know I'll have to have someone put them in for me if I get them . You did a great job.

Y'all are better than me. My first try took me 4 hours!!! I was thoroughly put out by that experience. Also my curls only lasted a day:perplexed: I am going to try again tonight.

Mahogony7', I feel you girl. My first time didn't go so well it took a while, came out frizzy and lasted 1 day...a big letdown. Thinking back, I think the reason it fell and was frizzy was too much product which weights the hair down. I used a leave-in, creamy moisturizer, gel and oil...way, way too much for my hair. Also the hair needs to be soaking wet (think back to rollersets on relaxed hair) same principles apply, keep spritzing the hair as you go along. Finally, I find that a little bit of heat sets the curls and makes them last longer. 30 - 45 min under a bonnet dryer or even using a blow dryer should do the trick followed by some air drying time makes my curls last up to 5 days. For more tips, check out Naptural85 YouTube tutorials or bajandoc86 blog. I must give her blog props cause her curlformer tutorials really helped me lock my technique down. My results looks just like hers. Here's the link to her tutorial. http://fortheloveofmyfro.blogspot.ca/2012/12/curlformers-take-2.html. Give it one more try cause its worth it :yep:

hair4today, thank you so very much for all of the great info. I have to check them out before I do my set tonight. Have you ever tried using homemade flaxseed gel? If yes, how did it work for you?

Mahogony7 glad you find the tips helpful. Always happy to share. :yep: As for flaxseed gel, no haven't used it as I'm not much of a mixtress. I've heard really good things about flaxseed gel -- suppose to give you soft, non sticky hold. Good luck with tonight's install. Let us know how it goes okay.

Alright, this time around I managed to install my curlformers in 3 hours. So I was happy to shave an hour. My question now is, how do I go to sleep with the curls? My hair is nowhere near long enough to pineapple and the curls don't touch my neck. So does anyone have any advice on what to do? Thanks in advance.

Hey that's awesome you made some progress with this install. To maintain the curls you can try pin curls (roll/twirl the curl around your finger loosely then pin it down using hairpins or hair clips) or the twist n curl method using flexi-rods or my personal favourite approach which is to do loosely twisted bantu knots.

How much are these babies? I want the pink and orange.....
Where can I buy online at a good price? I want to buy them today....

Tks.

I just tried my first attempt. Epic fail. U couldn't even get one installed. When my head hit sore I stopped. The hair wouldn't fit uni the the curlformer. I think the patch was to big. When i finally got a chunk of hair in I discovered that the curlformers I have are too short errrrrr. So I need to sell these and get longer ones.
