Ladies,

This is absolutely ridiculous! MTG smells sooooooooooo disgusting! I put it on for the first time today, and I thought I'd get used to it by the end of the day, but every time I move my head and smell it, I get nauseous. I don't know if I can keep using this because it's so bad. I've read posts about people complaining about it, but I never figured it was this bad. I just ordered some jojoba, rosemary & peppermint oils, and maybe they'll help, but....jeez!

Sorry about your experience :(. Mixing it with oils certainly does help with the smell.

What MTG products are you using?

i agree. i have a very sensitive nose and it makes me sick to my stomach. i'm debating on whether to sell it or give it another try.

They way I've heard the smell of this stuff being described....

Well, anyone who can put up with the smell or put up with smelling like it is a true trooper!!!

It smells like sulfer to me. Just like that sulfur 8

What does?

I only use the MNT Detangler and MNT Deep Moisturizing CON and the smell isn't that bad for me:ohwell:

Shapeley's MTG is some stinky stuff....we are using the oil...the smell is unbearable thus must be covered up. I wonder how horses can stand it!! It smells like bacon gone horribly wrong.

It doesn't bother me... I hope other people aren't smelling it tho and looking at me like I have issues... :perplexed

adding some lemon oil to mask the smell is incredible, I can really not smell the bacon anymore. It is great cause now I can wear my hair down and still use MTG

Ok, for real - we told you MTG STANK! How come you didn't believe us? :lachen: :lachen:

Thanks to everyone who responded...

I HAVE to wash my hair tomorrow cuz I can't keep smelling this....Also, I think I used too much because it was all running down my neck. I put my hair in 4 twists and the twists were almost leaking MTG. All I had to do was touch the ends and my fingers had tons of oil on them. lol! maybe that's why the smell was so bad.

I wish it smelled like sulfur 8. I can stand the smell of sulfur 8, but bacon oil? nooooooo

Out of curiousity, how strong/potent are all these scents you ladies are mixing in with this stuff to kill the original scent?

I do use my MTG straight up and I believe these steps help cut down the smell:

1. Use a color applicator bottle. MTG is like any other oil so apply it with a light touch. I take the applicator bottle and run it a few times through my scalp and then I go and in and massage the oil into my scalp. MTG is for my scalp ONLY, not my hair.

2. Apply it at night and by morning, the smell is gone or very light (basically, your nose would have to be on my hair to smell it).

3. I use another oil (almond oil/ylang ylang/avacado) and my hair oil. The smell from this alone covers up everything. I use this to apply to my hair because the MTG is only used on my scalp.

Anyway, this works for me so HTH anyone else!

Your hair is so pretty...

As far as the MTG goes, I don't use it anymore.

I have a brand new bottle, along with the Light Oil #1, and I don't know what to do with either of them.

I'll probably pour it out. Even the jojoba oil doesn't cover up the smell enough anymore.

I know some folks will argue the point, but there is nothing that kills that smell. At best you smell like minty bacon.

I agree with the bolded part. The smell fades if you put it on wet hair the night before, but it's still there.

Aww, thanks lady!

I'm just wondering, so much mixing of essential oils to cover up the scent, the smell has to be pretty strong, no?

I felt the same way you do when I first started! But now as long as I apply to wet hair and mix with lemongrass oil it's cool. Also I wear my hair up but since my hair short I don't have to worry about swinging my head only to leave a trail of stench.:look:

It's strong enough to kill, 1913!

I stopped using it because I work around a lot of black people now, and they were "looking" at me.

Oh well. I'm not really sure if MTG grows hair faster or not. Maybe the white people at the other board were right.

Nothing grows your hair but TLC and PATIENCE.

I've given it up.

It really does reak, i got mine today (THANK YOU QUEENIE!!!), i thought it was a joke when you ladies said it stinks, owell doesn't phase me... kinna makes me hungry though!

I HATE the way MTG smells and how it overpowers my fragrance. I tried it once and just could not stand the smell and how gross my hair felt from the oil. I was afraid of it getting on my pillows and clothes. Also it ruins silver jewelry over time, even if you clean it.

I even tried again after a month or so to help grow out a problem area. STILL GROSS!!

It is not a smell I want to get used to I don't care how many oils and scents you add to it.

I will stick with what I have been using to give my hair growth a boost.

LOL Minty Bacon!

Well, today my hair smells like Sulfur 8, which is what someone before said MTG smelled like. Although Sulfur 8 isn't the best smell in the world, I can handle it. I think I'll only use MTG once a week, otherwise I'll kill myself with the smell, and my hair will be too oily. Also, I don't think I'll use it after I wash my hair, cuz my head will smell dirty, which to me, defeats the purpose of washing it with wonderful smelling products.

Are you putting it all through your hair? You're only supposed to put it on your scalp. And yes if it's running down your neck you're using way too much. Most people who absolutely cannot tolerate the smell seem to be using way too much and putting it all through their hair.

What the heck is up with my sense of smell?

MTG isn't an offensive scent to me. My sister uses it as well, and she says the scent doesn't bother her either. So many people says it smells like bacon, but the smell of bacon makes me gag. Strange, huh? To me, MTG smells like that Dax Pine Tar hair grease my mom used on my hair as a child. Could it be that MTG just brings back memories of my childhood, therefore my unusual tolerance of a smell so many find offensive:confused:

Hi .... Just got some MTG and applied it after washing my hair tonite.... I agree that most people are probably applying waaaay toooo much and applying it to their entire hair length instead of just applying it to their scalp.

I applied my regular NTM silk touch then put some MTG in a 4 oz spritz bottle and parted my hair and lightly spritzed my scalp with it.. I massaged it in and then put some WGO on the length of my hair and finished with John Frieda frizz-ease and shea butter on my ends. I barely smell it now.

It reminds me of sulphur 8 that my mom use to put on my hair when I was a kid... I am not bothered by it at all actually!

Actually there are two sides to MTG. The sulfur side is tolerable. But it has a hidden bacon side that kicks in especially when MTG gets heated. Another member/poster told us in an ealier post what this ingredient was "cod" something . . . I'll look it up and post later.
