I saw this today in a pill form but it seems like everyone here takes the powder form.

Does it matter which form of MSM you take?

Is anyone taking the Pills??

Thanks ladies

I use to take the tablets but they were too big and bothersome. So now I take Trimedica Pure Liquid MSM from Vitamin Shoppe.

I know some ladies take the pills. I take the powder b/c its easier to up the dosage and I'm not a big fan of swallowing pills anyway

Also, the kind I take is much better than the powder form although it might hit your pockets up a couple more dollars. You just pour the msm into whatever you are drinking and that's it. No mixing or nothing!

I recently switched from the powder-filled capsules to the powdered MSM. I took the pills for well over a month and my body aches were not helped at all. Already I’ve noticed a difference with the powder and will be increasing my dosage.

This seems easy enough for me. Just add to a drink and go. I hate to taste thing much. So If I add in a bev. (like juice) that should cut the taste. right?????? giggles.

Legend...thanks lady. How much are you taking now?

I'm taking 1 tsp. to 1/2 tbsp. each day (about 4000-6000 mg.). I want to increase to 8000 mg. I have not had any detox effects (not even an odd pimple). This, to me, sounds like either

A. I'm very healthy and detoxified already, or :smirk:
B. I need to take more. :D

OMG  I was thinking the same thing!! I just increased from 2000mg to 4000mg now I'm up to 6000mg all within 2 weeks and I haven't experienced any detox symptoms....I'm scared to go higher for fear of detoxing again, that was no fun :perplexed I take Jarrows Formula MSM.

I am so glad I came back to this thread to check for your reply. I took only 1000 mg today. I thought I really did something! lol. I guess I will work my way up. Thanks again!

I think you are taking way too much. Slow down....take a couple of days off from it and see what happens. It won't slow down your process, but you might want to flush your system out with lots and lots of water. It's usually 1/2 of your body weight.

Hope this helps.;)

The best way to take it is powder. The two best powder brands I have experienced are Trimedica and Vitamin World. Both make purity their main focus. Purity in MSM powder/crystals is a big issue. It does make a difference in how your body will experience the MSM. I had been on "Ultra Botanicals" MSM crystals for the past 6 weeks because I couldn't get my other brands at the time and the lady at this health food store was assuring me that their buyer had researched the market for a brand with high purity and this was a good brand. Turned out to be junk. The Trimedica and Vitamin World brands will kick in almost immediately and the powder will have your body processing it easily and efficiently.

I take 4000 mg a day of the msm powder. I was taking the 4000mg a day with a class of carrot juice and I believe that the combination of the msm and the carrot juice really accelerated my hair growth. I started off taking 1500 mg for 2 months. I stopped taking the MSM powder because it is really nasty even in the carrot juice. I am going to go back to the pills, only problem is I would have to take 4 pills to equal what I would get from the powder :ohwell: Does anyone take the MSM liquid? If so, how is it??? Where do you get it from??

Where can you find these brands?

For those of you that don't have any detox symps. Does your bottle have the Opti logo on it? Because it might not be the purest brand. I didn't get any symptoms either but I consider myself pretty healthy and detoxed.

I switched to DistilPure MSM and started detoxing again and this is only 2 weeks after I finished the last of my Trimedica powder.

ETA: I didn't think I would start detoxing with this new MSM since I had already been taking the Trimedica powder for a couple of months and had detoxed when I first started taking it.

I have been taking MSM for over a yr, I started w/ walmart,Gnc,and now Solgars and on back it says it's an OptiMSM a registered trademark of Cardinal Nutrition, which I read from a nutritional vitamin book that it(Opti by Cardinal Nutjrition) was a good source as well as Natrol. It didn't say rather it was pill or powder. So I'm wondering if it's pure. Also, what are some of the detox symptoms? Cause with all the brands I've taken I don't remember any side effects, only that I helped w/ the hip pain that I had after giving birth and soft new growth.

I take the Jarrow brand MSM, it says on the bottle it's 100% pure. I did experience feeling exhausted when I first started, but no pimples or breakouts...I also drank SO MUCH water, that probably made a difference.
I asked the grocer at Whole Foods (where I bought the MSM) and they highly reccomended the Jarrow brand. And it wasn't the most expensive.

The Trimedica is hard to find in my city. I've only found it at this one health food store. But, TRIMEDICA is a GOOD BRAND. They can be ordered online if your health food stores don't carry it. The Vitamin World brand is the same as the Vitamin Shoppe I believe. Vitamin World and Vitamin Shoppe are a chain of vit stores across the country usually found in malls.

ETA: Both Trimedica and Vitamin World can also be found on a Google search and ordered online. Vitamin World does a buy one get one free the first two days of every month. You can get 2 big bottles for the price of one on June 1st and June 2nd online or by going into the store.

This is the one I take. It has been 2 weeks today of taking 4000 mg. (4 scoops) and I have had a few tiny tiny bumps on my forehead.

I can already tell a difference in the softness of my skin. NICE!

I take the MSM liquid because I have no time for mixing stuff in. I use Trimedica Pure Liquid MSM from Vitamin Shoppe. I view this as the best option. It might run a little it more but its worth it. I pay $8.99 for an 8oz and about $16.00 for a 16oz.

Isn't it great?! :D My skin hasn't been this soft in forever. The only thing is, I haven't really noticed a difference with my hair. When can I expect to see that? I've been taking MSM for a little less than a month now.

I was wondering the same.

But, yeah, I can tell when I am in the shower and applying my moisturizers that my skin is softer.

My BF even commented on how soft was skin is. :D

Now all i need are some benefits for my hair.

The detox symps are the pimples. I haven't tried the liquid but I might next time and take it as a sublinqual(?)

CBC...have you ever tried Puritan's brand? I have been taking Puritan since March and wondering how it compares to the pure brands you mentioned.

I am not familiar with this brand. Maybe someone else may have tried it and can comment. After wasting 6 wks on the UB brand, I am just convinced I need to stay with the tried and true.

You might try doing a search on that because there is a thread around here somewhere (either here or in the skincare thread) where they discuss at length all the different brands and their experiences with them. Try the "15 years younger" thread in skin care and the "MSM side effects" thread here on the hair forum.
