I have been watching the changes that are occurring to my hair as it grows. It is better moisturised, and feels softer. The NG appears smoother than my relaxed ends as the cuticle is lying down. :woot:
I have noticed that my hair texture appears different as I am transitioning, to when I was a child. My hair appears to be 4b in old photos and my mother says it was a nightmare to do my hair. :lachen:
As I have been taken care of my hair and following the advice you ladies offer very closely my hair has changed. My NG appears to be 3c.
I showed my mother and she told me that it will change back to 4b as it grows out. Could this be possible? I'm aiming for healthier hair but confused that it will look different as it gets longer. Surely the NG indicates what your true texture is. :ohwell:
I told her that we now have better information on how to take care of our hair and better products than 30 years ago.
Has anyone else experienced this? :perplexed
We will see as I transition. :crossfingers:

I'm not sure because I don't have a relaxer, but most people say that the relaxer weighs your hair down and so your new growth appears to be a different texture from what it really is. They say that you only know your true texture once you cut all the relaxed hair off.

You are just going to have to wait and see. If it is 4b I'm sure it will be beautiful. But who knows it may be 3c. Your hair may have always been 3c but your mother did not know how to handle it and didn't keep it moisturized etc. so it may have looked different when you were a child. Don't worry about it, just give it time and make up your mind that whatever texture it is, you will love it and take good care of it.

It seems possible for hair texture to change over time. Just like some people's hair changes color from when they were a child it might also change texture. It could also be hormones, nutrition, even medication all effects the body and it shows through the hair.

Look what I found...

Hair changes every five to seven years,” said Christo of the Christo Fifth Avenue Salon and creator of the Curlisto line of hair products. But even though we might know what affects hair texture, it still is unclear exactly how and why this happens. People with curly hair have a flatter follicle. Straight hairs tend to have a rounder follicle. But how a flat follicle turns round, and vice versa, is a mystery. “What adds to the curl or takes away from the curl is a fascinating issue scientifically,” says Tom Dawson, a principle scientist at P&G Beauty. “You’d think with something as fundamental as human hair, and the amount of time and money we put into our hair, that we’d know more than we do. But it’s a tough nut to crack.

^^^ITA

My hair texture has recently changed. I used to be a 4b but during this last relaxer stretch, I now have a 3c crown and mostly 4a throughout the rest.

Thank you for response ladies.

Its interesting what you say gymfreak because this is exactly what I am experiencing. Do you have any pictures of your NG as you stretch?
Hopeful, I value my hair and intend to embrace all its eccentricities.:lachen::grin:

I plan to transition for at least two years so I will have to learn patience fast, hee hee! :lachen::lachen::lachen:

Your hair sounds like mine. It grows in smooth looking, however, when I did the big chop I found I just have a smoother grain of 4a/4b. When you part my hair it looks wavy, but it sticks straight out and doesn't hold curl very well. The roots look like they should be 3c, but once I did the bc, the curl pattern was 4a/b. (small tight coils and no curl at all) But that hair type makes a great puff! The edges lay down easily with a little gel or wax, but you have enough texture to rock the puff without brushing the curls out! However, I can't wash and go.
