My hair was breaking off in the past because I was iron deficient. I went to a nutritionist and she told me to eat more red meat to help boost my iron levels. It should help me in growing stronger.

This happened to me too several years ago although I didn't know it was related to an iron deficiency. After going to a doctor for other reasons, I learned I was anemic and had to take iron supplements, besides eating foods high in iron. My hair breakage stopped very quickly, like within a day or so.

I take Spirulina, snack on raw almonds, sunflower seeds, eat lots of soy foods such as tofu, and eat lots of the green veggies raw and cooked. Turnip and collard greens are very high in iron. Blackstrap molasses is exceptionally high in iron. It's important to take vitamin C along with iron supplements to make it more absorbable by the body.

Here is a list from http://www.edu.pe.ca/athena/thomas/ironfoods.htm

Foods High in Iron

1. Clams

2. Lean red meat (Hamburger)

3. Shrimp

4. Liver

5. Egg yolks

6. Dried beans and peas

7. Tofu

8. Salmon

9. Molasses

10. Raisins, prunes

11. Dried apricots

12. Whole grained bread and pasta

13. Spinach (cooked)

14. Farina

15. Walnuts, cashews, almonds

I need to start taking this again. I haven't found it here yet though. They have strict rules about supplements here ... too strict.

I found out that I was Anemic also. The doctor suggested that I take 65mg of Iron three x a day. Well I did this for about 1 month and I am no longer anemic. I take it once a day now and my hair is doing so much better. The shedding was so sad....I think that I have normal shedding now. though.

I too take Iron (25mg) w/Vita. C daily under the supervision of my dermatologist to minimize my previous shedding problem. So far so good.

I started taking iron recently, the only thing is that I don't like the green "Number 2s" it gives me, sorry, TMI, I know.
