I'm not saying it isn't possible, but that was so weird to me.

I'm trying to move her off stuff like Dr. Miracles on to more natural stuff, but she says it breaks her out.

Any suggestions. She has very fine, 3 something hair.

Was it extra virgin? I've never had a problem w/evoo. Maybe try something lighter like coconut oil or jojoba.

it's possible...maybe she could try a lighter oil like coconut or jojoba...it might be the heaviness of the oil, or just the olive oil itself.
eta: Pokahontas beat me to it lol

I cant use olive oil straight on my scalp. Its fine mixed in a conditioner but on its own it builds up on my scalp something fierce.

She could try jojoba oil it is the closest to the scalps natural sebum/oil

It happened to me, but I can't use any oil at all. It breaks out my face. I have tried grape seed, avocado, olive oil, and carrot oil. I've had success wit proclaims argan oil. I've been using it a couple of months and no break outs, but it smells so manly to me.

That's the same with my mum. She's been using Dax and grease products all her life. I tried to get her to use castor oil cos she said she needs something heavy on her scalp. So she's tried castor oil twice, months apart with both the laxitive and the external type and it said it made her get bumps on her scalp both times.

melissa-bee, why does your mom need something heavy on her scalp? Has she ever tried not to use anything? Many of us used to feel the same way and now know better and only use product on hair. There's a window when one stops where the whole idea feels unbearable and itches may seem to attack...but withstanding that window can bring you to a whole different side of life where having a clean, bare scalp becomes the best thing since sliced bread.

What was wrong with the Dax? A lot of Dax products have mineral oil, but some don't and they almost all have "good" oils like coconut oil. Dax Kocotah smells terrible but is just tar oil and coconut oil. The tar eliminates dandruff and the coconut oil softens hair. Ahhh, I used to love Dax, but I don't use it anymore.

But if she wants to move to the natural side, try all-natural pomades. They feel heavy like grease without the junk ingredients. I use Hairveda Almond Glaze on my niece, but there are others.

Olive oil breaks me out something terrible...I like lighter oils and in extreme moderation, gobs of oil isn't for everybody.

Nonie , That's just her, she's one of those people who are stubborn about hair care. She has locks and still believes that you shouldn't wash them often. So I'm just gonna leave her to it.

I think my mom is also heavy handed with products. Her hair isn't nearly as dry as mine, but she uses a lot of product.

I'm going to see if the beauty supply still have the Qhemet butters in stock and I'll ship her one.
