hi all....
so i've been struggling trying to find a balance timing-wise re: using both a protein and a moisturizing condish every week. for awhile there i was co-washing which allowed me to rotate easily between the two, but haven't been doing so lately - i've learned that i don't really need to on a regular basis. i do, however, henna gloss every week (on wash day). but as a result, i started skipping using a protein condish since i was henna glossing every weekend thinking that because henna acts as a protein, i would be golden.......not so much it turns out because of course it isn't actually a protein. so enter the need to ensure that i use a protein condish weekly - where to find the time and/or methodology to integrate into wash reggie? not willinging to eliminate henna glossing every week - LOVE - but also not wanting to have a millions steps every wash day.

so, brings me to my point - i started mixing a mid-heavy (strong) protein conditioner with my henna to make the gloss and DC with a moisturizing condish after. works great and i am loving it.

posting this because i haven't come across many (or any that i can recall) ladies mentioning that are or have done this - the only posts that i can recall seeing about henna glossing and even just henna'ing in general specify mixing/using a moisturizing, protein free condish only. interested in hearing whether any others are using a protein condish to make their henna glosses?

i am loving it and finding that it solves my time-quandry re: ensuring use of protein and MC weekly while not significanctly extending reggie time or adding additional steps.

Any others out there mixing protein condish with henna? what have been your results? Do tell! :yep:

TIA!!

My Friend .....i used giovanni protein silk infusion but one tube is only enough for two applications so i am going to try gvp generic biolage balm which is protein free mixed with jheri redding natural protein which is liquid and see how that works

I mixed a few tablespoons of each product: Karishma henna blend, Joico k-pak reconstruct conditioner, ayurvedic oils and black strap molasses. I don't care for the smell of Joico k-pak so it won the vote for henna gloss today. I figure the protein can't hurt. I usually add eggs, beer or lecithin to my regular henna paste.

thanks, choctaw...i've been thinking of adding amla powder to my henna. nothing to do with protein, but i've heard the cleansing properties of amla provide a nice addition to the conditioning properties of henna.

hmmmm, joico, you say? i happen to have about 1/2 a bottle left that i had forgotten about in my PJ stash......might be a good way to use of the rest of it!

coyacoy,

I love amla with henna ... :lick:

Thanks for this post!

I haven't used a protein con for henna glosses so I will try this out on Monday or Tuesday and let you know how it goes! I'm due for a protein treatment and I have K-Pak I need to use up.

I've only used "regular" conditioners in my henna glosses, but since my hair needs both, I may try it your way.

I have blended Aphrogee 2-Step in with my regular conditioners with good results. I may do that again and mix it with henna.
