Before anyone asks, yes I did a search, and no, I did not find what I was looking for. I think I'm not doing my searches properly, because that seems to happen to me a lot. :ohwell:

At any rate, I am thinking of purchasing Mega-Tek for the first time and wondered if I could get some advice. I feel that my retention could be improved and am attempting to find a solution.

The problem that I'm having is that my ends, like the last half inch, or so of my hair is kinda weak. If pulled between my fingers, the ends will snap off fairly easily, while the remaining strand is much more elastic and strong. Instead of chopping them ends off, (like I probably should :look:) I'd like to try and strengthen them up.

So I was thinking I'd like to try Mega-Tek. However, I have the following questions.

1. How do you use the Mega-Tek? Is it like a regular conditioner?
2. Does it work better if mixed with something?
3. Do you deep condition under the dryer with it?
4. How often do you use it? Is frequent use required to see results?
5. Does it help reduce breakage? Improve elasticity?

For me this product is rather pricey, so I'd like to be as informed as possible before I make my purchase. Also, I am aware that some have complained of increased shedding when using this product. I'm not concerned about that, I just want my ends to stop breaking off so much.

Any responses, links, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

1. When I used Mega-Tek a few years ago, I used it on the scalp only. I never used it as a rinse out conditioner. Some of the ladies did though.

2. I'm not sure if it works better if you mix it with something but I would suggest that you mix with an oil if you're protein sensitive. Mega Tek is a heavy protein product.

3. I never tried DC'ing with heat but I read some of the ladies used it a overnight DC.

4. I used it 3-4 times a week.

Hopefully others will chime in with responses. If you want to use it just to stop breakage and not as a growth aid, you may want to try Mane and Tail conditioner as a cheaper alternative.

Hope this helps.

I am sure you won't get a lot of answers now but:

1) yes I use Megatek as a conditioner on the length of my hair.

2) I mix it with wheat germ oil just because of ceramides.

3). I use it under the dryer with heat for 15 to 20 mins. Then rinse and use a moisturizing conditioner.

4). I use once a week or sometimes every other week. No problems from regular use.

5). I used to have ends break off as I run my fingers thru....no more. My hair strength and thickness has also improved.

A 16oz bottle lasts me anywhere from 10 months to a year.

I will post a few threads you should read as they will answer many of your questions plus see pictures from others experiences.

Thanks for responding ladies! mzteaze, your input was especially helpful! All I'm really looking for is something that will decrease, or better yet, stop my ends from being so weak and breaking off. If there's any other positives about using this product, that'd just be icing on the cake! :yep:

Platinum, I've tried Mane and Tail conditioner, and I didn't notice any improvement with my breakage. I hate to spend so much on a single bottle of conditioner, but I've heard really good things about Mega-Tek so I'm hoping it'll be a worth while investment.

It worked well for me as a growth aid (I'm not even sure why I stopped using it). I may have to try it again as a conditioner and growth aid.

Don't expect instantaneous results but I am pleased with my results. ALSO, may others said they got more thickness than length with it (which was fine with me).

Here are a few threads tho:

I could be way off base, but the way you described your ends breaking sounds to me like they're dry, i.e. lacking moisture, in which case MT would not be an apprpriate remedy considering it's a pretty strong protein.

If I'm right (which I may not be...I'll let the vets chime in), you may want to instead focus on moisturizing and heavily sealing your ends, and possibly hiding/tucking them.

Thanks again mzteaze! And no, I'm not anticipating that my hair will suddenly grow down my back. I just want to strengthen up my weak ends so I can more effectively retain the length that I do grow.

And bride91501, I don't really think it's a matter of moisture, cause I've been taking advantage of the warm weather and been going pretty hard on the moisture game. On the other hand, I've done little to nothing to strengthen my hair. I think the protein will help, especially followed up with a nice moisturizing condish! :lick:

Thanks again ladies!
