Hello ladies! Since most of you are black women, I believe this is the right place to ask

Have you ever weared braids while you had damaged hair?? I'm kinda platinum blond and this thing on my head is more like to a cotton candy than hair!!!

I'm planning on wearing braids for a couple of months, but do you think I can colour my roots when they will start turning to brown (my natural)?? Heeeeelppppppp!!!

Hey there, Greek White Girl

- just put it out there!!
Are you wanting to let your hair go back to it's natural color? If so, just dye it back and wait a bit to put in the braids- so your hair can recover from the dying process.
My hair was very blonde and I went back and forth in braids for manny years, then a couple months ago, I got tired of all the work and dyed it black, and left the braids alone.
In braids, my hair did very well recovering from the bleach and grew out nicely. Actually, quite a bit- my pictures have some SERIOUS roots showing!!

ok well let me just go on and ask.....did you say "since most of us are black women" because your thinking is we commonly have damaged hair? or because we commonly wear braids?...and why would you want to continue to color your roots as it grows, if thats what gave you damage in the first place, so that now your contemplating putting braids on to cover up or deal with it? ok thats why i was at a loss.......

okayyyy i guess you understood her better, cause i wasnt gettin it. sorry

okay, I DID misunderstand one part- Ithought she was asking about dying her hair BACK, but she wants to continue with the blonde, is that right Marina? If so, you are taking a risk with damage since the bleaching is harsh and strips your hair, then the braids will pull on hair already stressed.
When my hair was double processed blonde and braided, I did redo the roots (eventually) and rebraided it, but you have to undo the braids (which you should every 6-8 weeks anyways) do some TLC on you hair and scalp before you bleach again then rebraid after it's had a chance to rest.

No..I just thought I'd ask because most of you have really fine hair like mine and use to have braids. Just wondering if this works. I like my color, and it took me years to succeed it (so I would like to keep it if possible), but I never took good care of them..actually not at all! So, I decided to put them in braids, just to keep my hands and heat out of them.

.....anyway, i think you should just leave the bleach alone...but if you want to keep trying it....then maybe your on the right track with braiding it and leaving it alone....but its gonna take lots of care...i dunno though, cause im not a color/lightening/bleach expert...others here are though

Yes, I would love to keep it blond, but since it's no good for my hair I may reconsider and dye it brown before braiding..so confused! My braider told me I could re-do my roots every now and then (which is appx every 30 days), but I am not that sure if it's okay to go on chemical procedures when braided..

i would leave the dye alone for a while util your hair has recovered from the damage. braids would be a nice choice to grow out the colour. but make sure you get regular deep conditioning treatments as well as protein treatments to rebuild the strenght of the hair.

Sorry if I wasn't very clear, I didn't mean anything else, my hair is probably the damagest in this forum..

Maybe I'll probably give it a try and make my hair brown again, and tell my braider to get me some blond braid extensions

That sounds like a plan! I know its possible to have healthier hair while bleaching - but its hard. And I have no idea if it is at all possible to properly bleach and color your roots while they're braided. I would be afraid of patches of un-bleached hair if I did that. Or maybe it would soak into the braids - but then how would you be sure that you're rinsing it all out?? I don't know...

WELCOME!!!

Welcome to the board Marina! All I can do is repeat what the others have said. Unless you are only trying to acheive a certain look and don't really care about the condition of your hair, then you could do the braids/bleach thing.

If however, you are trying to let your hair recover from damage, I would not recommend doing that at all for the reasons the other stated.

What you might want to consider is a weave though. That way you could still have the platinum color, but could let your hair rest underneath.

Whatever you decide do some protein and moisture treatments! Hope things turn out well!

I totally agree. Dyeing damaged hair isn't worth it, trust me.
