@CodeRed, mayo makes an excellent protein treatment that leaves your hair soft and well conditioned. I usually mix a little olive oil into the mayo and heat it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds before applying it to my hair. I don't like the smell of mayo, so I make sure to wash my hair with a very fragrant shampoo after the treatment. HTH.
@CodeRed, an added benefit that I forgot to mention is that the mayo strengthens your fingernails too.
I wash it out in the kitchen sink to keep the smell of mayo from stinking up my bathroom. Sometimes, I will add a few drops of lavender to cut the smell, but I have never thought to add tea. Let me know how that turns out for you.
@CodeRed, 7 hours is a long time for any type of protein to be on your hair. Before you throw in the towel on mayo, just try it straight or with a tablespoon of oil mixed in and apply it to dry hair for approx. 30 mins. Sometimes, I sit under the dryer and sometimes I just put a plastic cap on and wrap a towel around my head to help the mayo penetrate my strands.
After you rinse it out, shampoo with a highly fragrant shampoo and then condition with a moisturizing conditioner. Once you see those results then you can make an honest assessment of whether mayo works for your hair or not.
I hope this helps.
