Hi ladies,

Those of you who are married, who did your hair and what did they do to it? Did any of you do your hair yourselves? Do you have any pics of your hair style? What styles are appropriate for brides?

Those who aren't married, would you do your hair yourselves, why/why not?

Also, who did your make up and what shades did you wear? What brand and did it last all day?

Thanks.

I am having my hair dresser do mine. She has not seen me since December but she knows that I care for my hair very well. This is going to be the first time since December that I have gel added to my hair, yuck!!! I am going to schedule an appointment for April so that I can test the hair style but I am pretty sure that it will be okay. I am wearing 2 veils and a tiara, so my hair is going to be flat twisted in the back and cascading roller set curls in the front.

As for make up, my bridesmaids want to go to the Mac counter, but I am wearing ivory and my mother is great at doing make up so that is who is doing mine.

My MIL, who was my hairdresser at the time, did my hair. It was awful. She put so much gel in it, it was awful. That night I had to stand in the shower to soften the gel to undo my hair and chucks of hair came out. My hair doesn't like gel. Did I say it was awful.

I did my makeup.

Yeah its interesting that alot of people use gel, especially those that wouldn't ordinarily!

I had a stylist do mine. I had a spiral curl set done with marcels. It was very pretty, and I still had waves from it at the end of the honeymoon. It really depends on your dress and veil what hair style will go with it. You don't always have to wear an updo. This is the one day I would say you should choose style over health if you have to make a choice;) (don't do any irreparable damage, but a lil heat and hairspray etc may be necessary for your ideal style).

My sis did my make up, it was natural, it didn't last all day and I touched it up before the reception and again after I ate (yes, I got to enjoy my meal at my own wedding).

I got my hair done by someone I had seen do several folks at my church hair before, she's not a pro but she was good, the only problem was that I wanted to do a trial run, but she wasn't available, so what I discovered on the morning of the wedding is that she didn't know how to do real hair just weaves, so although my hair was btwn apl and brastrap at the time, I had to let her put a weave in, it came out fine but I think it's important to have who ever will do your hair do it in the style before the big day.

Where do they make these beauticians? I think you were perfectly reasonable to expect her to know how to do real hair even though you had never been to her before.

I am having this dilemma right now because I am getting married in my hometown and all the beauticians I used to go to back in the day I wouldn't let touch my hair with a ten foot pole now. All the gel and heat that I used to let them put on my hair makes me cringe. I found some cute wedding styles online that I might try and do myself or have my sister help me with.

I did my own hair in an updo with spiral curls spilling out over my tiara-style head dress.

I did my own make up too. I am very comfortable doing my own hair and makeup and know I will do it the way I want it.

My hairdresser did my hair, it was so beautiful!!!!:rosebud: She had me come in around 6:00AM and took her time. She did this beautiful updo with weave but it looked like my real hair!!!! Everybody at the reception was saying how much my hair grew!!!!:look:

My makeup was beautiful too!!!! I started my makeup myself, as time moved on my nerves got the best of me. Then my sister-in-law stepped in and saved the day!!!!

I would love to do my hair myself but Im not...lol my hair dresser does a great job and even though I hate gel now because it dries my hair out my hair is not going to stay in an updo any other way. I am washing it out though the next day...not that night will be too busy LOL

My girlfriend did my hair (updo) and makeup for my wedding. She's not a professional, but she takes care of her own hair and always looks beautiful when we have formal events that we have to attend. I did ask my stylist to do a trial run to see if my hair was long enough for what I wanted...but she used too much gel and hairspray and I really wanted a soft look. My friend used a little hairspray to keep the back up, but that was it.

I'm sorry but this post made me :lachen: :lachen: !!!!

I washed my hair the night before and let it air dry. Pretty boring. I wore it loose with my natural waves and curls.

I did my own make up too. A combination of Lancome and MAC.

My husband's cousin who is a beautician did my hair. Her speciality is weaves so she was not skilled at doing relaxed hair. She put my hair in an up-do, but I did not like it. I had spiral curls towards the front and this thrown together bun in the back.

I should've worn my hair down. For my makeup I only wore lipgloss and mascara. I kept my makeup light. For some reason, I was trying to look as natural as possible. If I had to do it all over again, I would've gotten false lashes applied and had my makeup professionally done.

I am thinking about doing this but all I can see is them hanging half way off or me looking like New York with those bat wings she be wearing:lol:

I will be getting married at the end of next month.

I am having my hair and makeup done by the beautician. I used to go to her regularly before I started doing my hair myself, so I trust her.

My dress is halter style and I plan to wear an updo. I want it all back off my face, but with a little height in the front with waves/spirals to add texture (inspired by Oprah's current spiral hairstyle when she pulls it back...)

My wedding is at the end of June and I'm contemplating this very same thing. My dress is strapless and I want my hair long and curled/wavy but I don't want a weave/braids because I don't plan on wearing it but for the wedding. I saw this today and it's a fall. But I've never worn a fall...at least I can get it early and play around with it.

My hairdresser did my hair that morning, I had a updo of soft curls. He did a great job:). For my makeup, I had a MAC makeup artist do mine and she also did a great job. My makeup lasted the whole day, I didn't even want to wash it off that night.

My cousin and I HATED IT! She has a license to do hair but used my cheap appliances etc. ie. gold n hot curling iron. It was awful. I still grimace whenever I see the pictures.

 Bat wings...yikes! You can get the individuals and add them only to your outer lashes. I got a set of really natural looking one's at the Mac counter (I forget which number) and wore them to my cousin's wedding (I was a bridesmaid). They did not fall off at all, I probably could've slept in them that night. No one knew they were fake, they thought I had on some really good mascara. Get your lashes applied the morning of the event and go to Mac, they do a really good job.

I have been hearing that the MAC counter does a good job...I have heard horror stories about those lashes that stay on two weeks. Some people can't get them off and I would be scared they might cause some damage with the constant tugging and pulling trying to get them off. Maybe those folks just had a person that didn't know what they were doing.

My stylist will do my hair and makeup. I'm thinking of using a fairly neutral lip color and a dramatic eye look. I like these two looks below:

I'd like to wear my hair in some sort of textured updo. I'm thinking that I'll have her do a twist out on my hair and find some extensions to match that texture and then do an updo with that. I'm natural and I don't want to worry about straightening my hair but I know I want an updo.

:) I did my own hair and makeup. I had dreadlocs at the time, so that made it easier.

I used MAC makeup, and girl, don't get me to lying about what shades. *LOL* Here is the best pic of my makeup....

we didn't take many closeup shots...
And yes, it lasted all day. I had the full foundation, powder, lip powder, eyeshadow base - my whole face was painted, and painted GOOD. I think I had powder over my shoulders and cleavage too....

is about the best picture of the hairdo - it was really just a simple bun on the top of my head, with a tiara that matched my dress. I didn't wear a veil. Ignore the two random locs sticking out the back of the bun. :lachen:

I'm loving this hair!!!
A friend of mine who is a Lancome makeup artist will be doing my makeup. Her makeup is always the bomb when I see her so hopefully she won't have a problem replicating it on me.
