Mardi Gras 2011 and hair

Hey everyone! Happy Mardi Gras!

My funds were too low to head to NOLa this year, but lucky for me I live in the city with the 2nd biggest celebration in the state and walking distance from the major parade routes. Our Krewe of Krewes parade is still rolling through town, but its entirety passed me so I walked back home.

For those who dunno most of the state is under tornado watch and the weather is crazy. I was SO glad I'm natural because I saw ladies running every which way to salvage their hair from both the rain and the hail of trinkets lol! I saw tons of other curlies too and wanted to snap pics but I couldn't catch beads and wield a camera lol.

this is me and some of my haul.

this is what's left of my banana clip updo on 4 day old twists (i had to jump and fight for beads, cuz I don't do flashing lol. Nevermind being hit in the head...)

I said all this to ask, are there any times you guys are glad to have natural/relaxed/texlaxed/short/long hair because it worked to your advantage for weather or other unpredictable reasons?

Pahah! Sure! We go to about 7 or 8 parades every year, not to mention all the events and I get tons that just end up in a bag in storage or strewn around my house or trashed. Lol.

I will come back when I think of one. But for now my sister who is also natural was waiting in line at a club in LA when it started to lightly rain. All the BW in line with relaxed hair were screaming because they didn't have umbrellas, but my sister was fine because she was wearing her hair in a curly ponytail. She told me the next day she has never been happier to be natural.

Events I now love since I am natural:
-hot sweaty dance clubs with amazing music (no fear of reversion here)
-pool parties (push me in as much as you want... as long as my phone and ipod are not on me)
-hot tubbing
-playing in the snow
-working out

Rain, thanks! I LOVE mardi gras. I wanna go to Carnival somewhere one year though.

lizelies, yeah working out is so much better now.
And I swear I go out twice as much now, because I don't have to worry about my hair in the club. Lol. Maybe that's a bad thing though....lol!

I'm not fully natural yet, but when it rains if i don't have a slicked down pony no worries.
Also, with long hair i can listen to my mp3 player without anyone's knowledge and it shields my face when i have been sleepy in class

For those of you who can afford a weekend trip... Other than Fat Tuesday, you should see if you can get down here the Saturday and Sunday before Fat Tuesday. Endymion and Bacchus roll that weekend. If you can stay through Monday you can catch Orpheus. Other than Zulu and Rex on Fat Tuesday, those are the only three parades worth seeing.

For those of you who can afford a weekend trip... Other than Fat Tuesday, you should see if you can get down here the Saturday and Sunday before Fat Tuesday. Endymion and Bacchus roll that weekend. If you can stay through Monday you can catch Orpheus. Other than Zulu and Rex on Fat Tuesday, those are the only three parades worth seeing.

Maybe next year! My anniversary is 3/18 so maybe I can talk DH into it.

Bacchus is awesome. Zulu is my favorite though. Man, I wish I could've gone. Darn gas prices!
