I say "go for it"...shoot, why not? I've heard of crazier things. Somebody had to be the first to make it so it can be done. Maybe add a little lye to a thick creamy conditioner and some castor oil or evoo...I think a lot of the ingredients in our store bought relaxers are preservatives and not necessary for actually relaxing hair. JMO.

Would you make your own neautralizing poo, too?

@OP,
Please do your research and find out exactly what percentages of active ingredients are used in commercial products. Yes all commercial relaxers start somewhere but keep in mind that pure lye is not something to be played with so you can't just throw it in a bowl and experiment. You would have to be 100% precise with your proportions or you could end up in the ER with serious chemical burns or worse.

I was kind of just kidding...hence the "will you make your own neutralizing poo" question.

]Okay, first off thank you and BOOO![/I] at all of y'all and your responses. *lol* Do you really think I would experiment on my own head at first?

:lachen: :lachen: :lachen: Girl, people put coochie cream on their scalps along with other crazy trends (I've been guilty of a few) I wouldn't put it past them to make their own relaxers...nothing surprizes me here.:lol:

Girl, I have never tried and don't know of anyone who has. That is a very delicate experiment especially with all those flammable chemicals. Don't do it unless you want to end up looking like this:

OK, I don't know you. You may have a PhD in Chemistry or something. :bookworm: :brainy: If that is so, knock yourself out, you have my blessing. :)

Failing that, IMHO, one would have to be downright crazy insane :crazy: to mix up one's own relaxer and put it in your head. Doesn't this sound like a disaster in the making to anybody else???

Mixing up conditioner? Sure. You betcha. But something with LYE in it? :shocked: That could leave you looking like Mr. Clean in a heartbeat? :nono: Not this sister.

I agree, especially with the bolded. my hair's too precious for me to put that crazy mixture on my head.

There is no amount of money that would have me whip up a homemade batch of relaxer and spread it on my head.

I can see it now...WHOOSH!!! my head goes up in flames, me screaming and hollering. Naw, a sista ain't going out like that. :perplexed

That's funny :lol:
