Does anyone have any info. regarding Madam CJ Walker's orginal hair recipies? I have tried to Googling, but I can't find any ingriedient lists or recipies, only bios. Does anyone have any links?

TIA :D

According to the book "Hair Story", Madame CJ Walker introduced the Walker System which basically was a shampoo-press-and-curl.

She said that the recipe came to her in a dream and some ingredients had to be sent for from Africa. The system also included a hot comb.

Her product line included: Hair Grower (her top seller), Glossine (a pomade), Vegetable Shampoo, Tetter Salve (and anti-dandruff treatment) and Temple Grower.

Unfortunately the book doesn't say what the products are made from.

I've tried to do searches on her product's ingredients but couldn't find them, if anyone has even a clue let us know.

she did use sulfur!

Madame Walker is most famous for her highly successful African-American cosmetic company that made her a millionaire. Walker was suffering from a scalp infection that caused her to loose most of her hair in the 1890’s. She began experimenting with patented medicines and hair-care products. Then, she had a dream that solved all her problems, “He answered my prayer, for one night I had a dream, and in that dream a big, black man appeared to me and told me what to mix up in my hair. Some of the remedy was grown in Africa, but I sent for it, mixed it, put it on my scalp, and in a few weeks my hair was coming in faster than it had ever fallen out. I tried it on my friends; it helped them. I made up my mind to begin to sell it.” The key ingredient used in the mixture was sulfur to address common scalp infections caused by poor nutrition and other problems associated with a low standard of living. The Walker System was soon created using “Madame Walker’s Wonderful Hair Grower,” vigorous brushing and the application of a heated iron comb. Walker’s purpose, though, was not to straighten hair but to encourage growth and cure any common scalp ailments.

Ekomba, I luv the pic in your siggy!

Aww thank you Naturallady, Mahalia, RavenIvygurl and Labett !!!!!:p its been a year and 1 month since i big chopped:D from bald head. My hair has grown a lot but you cant tell with all the shrinkage. the back is past shoulder length i m two inches away from armpit:eek: :p but the front is just chin length and past my mouth and the sides under my neck on my collarbone its really really really thick but really soft cottony lol. I think it will show better once i maxiglide cause one day i thought i had a bug on my back and screamed and then i realized it was my hair wet creeping on me:lachen:

i too hounded everywhere for info on Mrs Walker 's secret recipes and for the past year did a high diet and hair regimen loaded on sulfur i was getting at least 4000mg of sulfur daily through my 9000mg of Carlson MSM Sulfur, plus the mtg, the diet almonds, soy milk, apples, spinach, eggs, vanilla shakes...and vits and absolutely no heat for a year lol it s finally paying off one more year to go and i should be waistlength summer 2007 if i can keep up but i have to rethink a simpler diet and hair regimen. i already did for now i just cowash with my beloved Praital worm rinse and put a little bronners b and b grease on wet hair only after the wash and nothing all week no grease nothing. i twist the hair at night and use the back of the comb in the morning to puff my fro and voila the hair stays bouncy and light cause there s nothing in it i get enough moisture from the PRAITAL RINSE and the bigen blue black every 3 weeks

Ekomba: Did the MSM and Biotin ever break out your skin?

Hey Mahalia they did! i would get a bump here and there but i would get less the more i consumed water you really have to increase your water intake. Specially the biotin did break me out and the more msm you take because of the detox effects :( that s why i plan to use them for one more year than i stopped the biotin definetely lol
